Empowering People with Disabilities Through No-Code Technology
Therapeer Inc., headquartered in Sumida, Tokyo, has been making waves in the realm of workforce inclusivity through its innovative use of no-code technology. The company recently showcased its achievements at the Be Smart Tokyo Demo Day, part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's initiative aimed at enhancing urban life with smart solutions. Their mission focuses on enabling people with disabilities to realize a working style that suits their needs through tailored coaching programs.
Project Overview
The initiative by Therapeer revolves around providing coaching services that help individuals with disabilities acquire no-code skills. This approach not only empowers them but also enables the creation of a support framework aimed at facilitating employment opportunities through the skills learned during the coaching process.
In collaboration with Mirairo Inc., known for their digital disability certificate, MirairoID, Therapeer executed trials that included in-feed advertising targeted at users of the disability certificate. Notably, this partnership emphasizes universal design solutions for both corporate entities and municipal bodies.
Applicants and Findings
Throughout the project, the analysis of applicant motivations revealed significant insights:
- - Many applicants expressed a strong desire to re-enter the workforce after a break due to various circumstances.
- - A vast majority of applicants, about 80%, were aged 40 and above, signifying a shift in the typical profile of those seeking employment support.
- - A considerable number of participants have acquired disabilities over the course of their careers, including both physical and mental health challenges.
Solutions Provided by Therapeer
Therapeer has devised two core strategies to address the needs of disabled individuals seeking adjusted work environments:
1.
Providing no-code skill acquisition opportunities through coaching: This enables participants to create a personalized approach to work that considers their health and characteristics.
2.
Supporting job placement in special subsidiary companies and A-type employment support facilities: This helps ensure long-term employment opportunities while allowing individuals to practice their skills.
In total, from 20 applicants, six individuals were enrolled in the coaching program. Among them, four have already begun applying their newly acquired skills in practical work settings at Therapeer. Participants report enjoying the process, showing positive engagement and progress.
Feedback from Participants
Two participants shared their experiences during a talk session at the report meeting:
- - Den-san: "I was initially drawn to the course due to my interest in coding and the desire for remote work options. It was rewarding to create something that functions in real-time. I was surprised by how comprehensively I learned to visualize the system as a whole, something impossible with traditional coding. No-code made it possible to undertake significant work irrespective of my abilities – it changed my perception of what I can achieve."
- - Moe-san: "I felt a mix of relief and anxiety upon being diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder. However, through this opportunity, I am gradually adjusting to the idea of contributing positively. I appreciate that my coaches help refine my pace and methods for better efficiency. Starting from zero is challenging, but I hold hope that one day I'll develop something beneficial for others in need."
Insights from Therapeer’s CEO
Kei Tanaka, the CEO of Therapeer, commented: "This project highlighted how no-code technology can seamlessly align with the personal working styles of individuals with disabilities, far beyond our initial expectations. By developing no-code skills, participants can work without being restricted by time or location. Furthermore, acquiring skills that address the digital transformation needs of SMEs and municipalities offers significant potential for personal and societal growth. Our goal is to enhance employment opportunities for disabled individuals while supporting businesses in their digital undertakings."
