Progress Report on the #OneMoreChoice Initiative
As part of
Tsumura's commitment to create a society where menstrual pains are openly addressed, the #OneMoreChoice project has seen remarkable progress since its inception in 2021. The initiative aims to eliminate 'hidden suffering' among employees by promoting health-conscious actions and encouraging employees not to endure discomfort in silence.
Introduced in April 2022, the
#OneMoreChoice Action has redefined the internal term for menstrual leave to
'Female Care.' This change has resulted in a dramatic increase in both the total number of days taken and the number of employees utilizing this benefit. Compared to 2021, the days taken for Female Care have surged approximately
3.6 times, while the number of employees taking this leave has increased by around
2.6 times.
Key Achievements
In addition to the growth in the Female Care policy usage, Tsumura also provides
free gynecological examinations for all employees, removing any age-related financial barriers. Data reveals that as of the upcoming fiscal year 2025, employees over 35 utilizing company health screenings achieved a breast cancer screening rate of
78.1% and a cervical cancer screening rate of
75.4%, both exceeding national targets.
Facilitating a Culture of Openness
To further enhance the workplace culture and reduce hidden suffering, Tsumura has implemented continuous training programs. The
#OneMoreChoice Training, designed for management and new hires, includes innovative experiences such as a
menstrual pain VR simulation. This initiative not only builds empathy but also encourages employees to communicate their health needs effectively. The goal is to create an environment where employees can choose options beyond enduring discomfort.
Expanding the Leave Policy
The #OneMoreChoice Action has led to significant changes in existing leave policies:
- - Free gynecological check-ups: All employees can now receive gynecological exams at no cost, previously limited to those over 35.
- - Renaming menstrual leave to 'Female Care': This allows for leave to be taken for a wider range of hormonal issues.
- - Flexible leave usage: New initiatives allow employees to use accumulated paid leave without needing a medical certificate for health-related absences.
Impact and Future Directions
The uptake metrics from 2022 to 2025 show promising growth. The total number of days taken for Female Care is expected to grow approximately
16.7% from the previous fiscal year. These results indicate a growing recognition among employees that taking time off for health issues is not only valid but encouraged.
In light of the successful implementation of these policies, Tsumura is actively sharing insights gained from this initiative with other organizations. The goal is to foster an environment free of hidden suffering, where everyone can choose healthier options.
Conclusion
Through the #OneMoreChoice initiative, Tsumura is not only addressing women's health but is also contributing to a cultural shift in corporate environments. By acknowledging and validating the health challenges many face, Tsumura exemplifies how business practices can evolve to foster employee wellness. The emphasis on open communication and proactive health management reflects a commitment to not just employee productivity but also their overall well-being.
