Voices of Joy from the Winners of the Letter Contest for Dogs

Celebrating the Winning Voices of the Letter Contest

In May, the Dog Happiness Executive Committee announced the winners of the 'Letter Contest,' which invites participants to express their feelings toward their beloved dogs through heartfelt letters. The contest is set to resume in November 2025. This year's winners received awards and special gifts, including unique plush toys and cushions that celebrate the bond between humans and their canine companions. The winning letters, along with the recipients' delightful comments, have been shared on the POCHI website since August 12. The award-winning pieces are a touching reminder of the love that families share with their dogs, and more accolades, including the Gold Prize, will be highlighted next month.

Silver Prize Winner: One-of-a-Kind Plush Toy

Recipient: Chocola, a 17-year-old Miniature Dachshund

Winner's Comment – Shinnomiya from Kanagawa Prefecture

When I learned about my award, I was surprised. I know that without Chocola, I couldn't have achieved the Silver Prize. I immediately told her, but as an elderly dog, she seemed a bit confused. What I wish to convey hasn’t changed from what I wrote: I hope she is happy and not suffering in any way. This contest provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on my feelings for Chocola, and for that, I am grateful.

Bronze Prize Winners: Unique 'My Dog' Cushions

1st Recipient: Dobie, a 15-year-old Papillon

Winner's Comment – Toto from Osaka Prefecture

I never dreamed my casual, straightforward letter, written in my Fukuoka dialect, would win Bronze! I was not aiming for a prize, so receiving the notification was a delightful surprise. When the beautifully wrapped prize arrived, I opened it to find my beloved Dobie there! I felt like he was back with me. Now, I have his cushion on my sofa and a key holder on my altar, which brings the nostalgia of our time together back to life. I'm so glad I participated in this contest.

2nd Recipient: Anzu, a 14-year-old Toy Poodle

Winner's Comment – Kusshi from Kanagawa Prefecture

When I saw the word 'Bronze' next to my name, I was astounded and excited. I couldn't help but share the news with Anzu, who was sleeping next to me at the time. My letter captured our daily life, and it meant so much that the judges appreciated it. What I want to express now is a heartfelt thank you for Anzu being part of my life. Even if we can’t speak, Anzu’s peaceful sleeping face is my greatest treasure. Let’s continue sharing fun and relaxing moments together.

Special Prize: Unique 'My Dog' Cushion

Recipient: Shintaro, a 7-year-old Mixed Breed

Winner's Comment – Kotomi from Kumamoto Prefecture

Learning about my award brought me immense joy. It felt fulfilling to think that my love for Shintaro resonated with others—though I also felt a pang of sadness realizing he’s no longer with me.

What I want to say to Shintaro is simple: 'Please wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge.'

This contest aimed to inspire happier lives for dogs and their families by collecting joyful stories, emphasizing the importance of our beloved pets. The Dog Happiness Executive Committee believes every dog in Japan deserves happiness. In pursuit of this vision, POCHI continues to serve up delicious meals and engaging activities for dogs and their families.

We hope the 'Letter Contest' continues indefinitely, allowing families to express their love through words.
