Astellas Pharma to be Host City Partner for the One Young World Tokyo 2027 Summit

In a significant announcement for global youth leadership, Astellas Pharma Inc. has been named the first Host City Partner of the One Young World 2027 Tokyo Summit. Set to take place from September 28 to October 1, 2027, this summit will convene over 2,000 young leaders from more than 190 countries, all dedicated to driving solutions to pressing global social issues. This event is expected to be the largest summit in One Young World’s history and marks a historic milestone as it will be the first time the summit takes place in Japan.

A Focus on Patient Value through Innovation

Astellas has crafted a clear vision to lead in healthcare innovation by turning scientific advancements into tangible value for patients. Their recently announced five-year strategic plan, dubbed Corporate Strategic Plan 2026, aims to enhance sustainable growth and prioritize rapid delivery of increased patient value. This focus extends to involving the next generation of leaders through One Young World.

Over the years, Astellas has empowered more than 30 of its employees to attend global One Young World summits, enabling them to manage projects that promote health and wellbeing worldwide. Addressing health disparities has been a significant agenda item, and the upcoming Tokyo 2027 summit will bring to light critical issues such as Japan’s aging population, challenges in healthcare access in rural regions, and the caregiving burdens that families face.

A Deepening Partnership

This partnership with One Young World marks a new chapter in a relationship that began in 2018 during the first Japan Forum, where Astellas’ CEO, Naoki Okamura, participated as Chief Strategy Officer. This initial engagement inspired the development of ASTAR, an internal leadership initiative co-founded with One Young World Japan (OYWJ), promoting sustainable development goals. ASTAR members are dedicated to launching initiatives supporting patients with unmet needs, promoting direct engagement with Astellas leadership, and strengthening their leadership potential.

By 2025, Astellas had evolved into OYWJ’s first Platform Partner, deepening the collaboration. Now, with Okamura serving as the first Japanese Counsellor at One Young World, Astellas is positioned as a central supporter of the Tokyo Summit as it becomes the inaugural Host City Partner.
