Celebrating Women's Futures: International Women's Day 2026 Special Coverage
On March 8, 2026, Sankei Shimbun will commemorate International Women's Day with a special edition aimed at encouraging readers to envision their ideal futures. This year's theme, "Imagining the Future We Want," aligns with the recent extension of the Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplace, now valid until 2036. This initiative marks a significant collection of perspectives aimed at fostering dialogue and mutual understanding among diverse individuals in today's multifaceted society.
A Unique Four-Page Layout
The special issue will feature a complete wrapping design that envelops the morning edition of Sankei Shimbun, presenting an innovative way to engage readers. The front spread displays a variety of questions related to daily life, health, work, and societal themes, all laid out prominently on cards. This interactive design encourages readers of all genders and generations to reflect on what a more inclusive society can look like.
As part of the FemCare Project, this is the third year that Sankei Shimbun is presenting a special edition for International Women’s Day. The guiding message is that while there may not be a definite answer to every question posed, reflecting on these issues can shift perspectives and foster greater empathy towards others' viewpoints. By including a reader-participation element, the initiative aims to create a platform for dialogue about personal values and societal needs.
Exploring the Social Context
The reverse side of the special issue will delve into the origins of International Women’s Day, recounting the journey of the FemCare Project thus far. The intent behind this year's theme will also be discussed, alongside messages from supporting companies about their vision for the future. Additionally, a variety of relevant events and features will be highlighted, connecting the insights generated from the pages of the newspaper to broader societal actions.
To deepen community involvement, readers are invited to submit their thoughts and responses to the questions presented, as well as pose their own queries. This initiative will run until March 31, 2026. By addressing these “questions without answers,” the project seeks to collaboratively foster a future that promotes understanding and equitable growth.
Join the Dialogue: “Creating Our Future” Campaign
During the campaign period, readers are encouraged to share their “answers” and “questions,” which may later be featured in future content by Sankei Shimbun and the FemCare Project. Full details are available on the official campaign page:
