Andrey Rublev Brings Joy to Kids at Autism Center During Almaty Open Event

During the recent Almaty Open ATP 250 tournament, tennis superstar Andrey Rublev took time out of his busy schedule to meet with ten children from the Asyl Miras Autism Center, an initiative supported by the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation. This heartwarming encounter highlights the significance of inclusion and joy in the lives of children with autism.

The Kazakhstan Tennis Federation (KTF) organized this event, continuing a long-standing tradition of connecting professional athletes with the kids at Asyl Miras. The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation oversees a total of 13 autism centers across 12 cities in Kazakhstan, providing comprehensive and free support to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Ainur Karbozova, CEO of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, emphasized the importance of enabling children with autism to participate in various life aspects, including sports. She stated, "Meetings like this expand the understanding of inclusion, not just among the children, but across society. Spending time with professional athletes is a significant experience for these kids and contributes to creating a more open and inclusive environment."

In the spirit of today’s fun, Rublev engaged in tailored exercises with the children, involving rackets and balls, accuracy tests, and other activities designed by specialists from Asyl Miras and the KTF. These activities allowed the children to explore tennis in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, making it a memorable experience overall. Additionally, it provided a wonderful opportunity for Rublev to learn more about autism and best practices for interacting with children on the spectrum.

Reflecting on this special day, Rublev shared, "It was a wonderful experience. First and foremost, it is always a pleasure to spend time with children. They teach you so much, and there’s something unique about being part of that playful atmosphere. Having grown up on the tennis court, with my mother as a coach, I truly value initiatives that aim to give back. Doing something nice for others is what really counts."

This visit is part of a series of meaningful engagements that professional tennis players have had with the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation over the years. Past visitors to the Asyl Miras centers have included big names like Novak Djokovic, Elena Rybakina, Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alexander Bublik, and many more. Upholding the tradition of giving back, Rublev concluded the event by gifting tennis rackets to the children, encouraging them to continue practicing the skills they had learned during the day.

The Almaty Open tournament and events like these not only bring visibility to tennis in Kazakhstan but also create heartfelt connections and opportunities for social responsibility. By fostering relationships between elite sports and communities in need, Andrey Rublev and others in the tennis world show that there is always a chance to make a difference, and that inclusiveness in sports is a powerful avenue for change.
