Phil Blurton Triumphs at the 2026 American Off-Road Racing Championship's Thrilling Conclusion

Phil Blurton Triumphs at the 2026 American Off-Road Racing Championship

In a riveting finale held in the Nevada desert, Phil Blurton of Can-Am secured his place in the history books by winning the inaugural American Off-Road Racing Championship UTV Pro Championship and Limited Overall Championship. The thrilling conclusion took place at the Laughlin Desert Classic, where Blurton's extraordinary performances throughout the season culminated in these two prestigious titles.

The American Off-Road Racing Championship series has been a rigorous test of skill and endurance, beginning in January of the same year. As competitors battled through diverse terrains and intense conditions, Blurton and his co-driver Jeff Gallegos faced their share of adversities, including mechanical issues that could have spelled disaster for their championship aspirations. However, their determination never wavered.

The climax of the season unfolded during an edge-of-the-seat race weekend at Laughlin, notorious for its treacherous whoops and high-speed washboard straightaways. The fierce competition kept everyone on their toes, but Blurton managed to snag the necessary points during a dramatic showdown despite a week filled with tension and technical difficulties. His main championship rival faced elimination, which allowed Blurton to fight for the title in the closing laps of the race.

Reflecting on his remarkable victory, Blurton shared, "Just wrapped up the AORC Race series, and ended today's race with 1st overall in the series. It was a nail-biting day. We had issues all week long, but the entire season went phenomenal. I couldn't have done it without Can-Am, their UTVs are amazing out here. This is probably one of my favorite tracks and it was probably my most stressful day racing out here - but yeah #1!" He praised the performance of his Can-Am Maverick R, which he described as "unreal all year long."

Blurton's incredible journey from pre-race calculations to elation at the finish line was quite extraordinary. He emphasized the urgency of strategy in racing, saying, "I don't like to count points up until the last race... It couldn't have gone more wrong for me today and then all of a sudden it turned out perfect in the end." This resilience exemplified the spirit of off-road racing.

In addition to Blurton's success, fellow competitor Michael McFayden also achieved remarkable results, securing second place in the UTV Pro Category with a strong showing. McFayden finished the first day in second position before clinching first place the following day, demonstrating exceptional driving skill and the reliability of the Can-Am vehicle. He expressed his exhilaration: "We just came in a P1 for day 2 and 2nd on Day 1. This Can-Am Maverick R was flawless, I beat this thing up so hard and it's still driving strong. We're about to bring it up to the podium and we are just stoked and excited about how we finished the race."

The intense races not only highlighted individual brilliance but also the overall success of the Can-Am brand in the series. With Blurton's and McFayden's performances, Can-Am celebrated a victorious season by winning the inaugural Manufacturers Cup for the AORC Season, affirming their stature in the competitive landscape of off-road racing.

Powered by the principles of protection, confidence, and exploration, Can-Am racing is further buoyed by sponsorship from Progressive® Insurance, which aligns with the brand’s commitment to nurturing the riding and racing community.
