Andrey Rublev Inspires Children with Autism at Almaty Open Event
Andrey Rublev Makes a Difference in Almaty
On October 21, 2026, the acclaimed tennis player Andrey Rublev took time out of his busy schedule to meet with ten children from the Asyl Miras Autism Center, part of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, during the ATP 250 Almaty Open tournament. This heartwarming initiative, organized by the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation (KTF), is part of a commendable tradition aimed at creating meaningful connections between professional athletes and children living with autism.
The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation operates 13 autism centers in 12 cities across Kazakhstan, offering free and comprehensive support to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Ainur Karbozova, the CEO of the foundation, emphasized the importance of such engagements, stating, "It is crucial for children with ASD to participate in all aspects of life, including sports. Events like this expand the understanding of inclusion not just among children but within society as a whole. Spending time with professional athletes provides these kids with a deeply meaningful experience and paves the way for a more open and inclusive environment."
On the tennis court, Rublev and the children participated in specially designed tennis activities, including ball and racket exercises, precision drills, and other fun games crafted by specialists from both the Asyl Miras center and the KTF. This playful atmosphere allowed the children to embrace tennis in a relaxed way while giving Rublev the opportunity to learn more about autism and how to better interact with these young individuals.
Reflecting on the experience, Rublev said, "It was a wonderful experience. First and foremost, it is always a pleasure to spend time with kids. They teach you so much, and there's something special about being part of this playful environment. My mother is also a tennis coach, so I've been around the court since I was young, and I observed how coaches work with young children. Every charitable initiative is incredibly significant, and everyone resonates with it in their unique way. But most importantly, it’s about doing something good."
The support from professional tennis players for the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has been longstanding. Over the years, the Asyl Miras autism centers have welcomed renowned tennis figures including Novak Djokovic, Elena Rybakina, Carlos Alcaraz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Continuing this legacy, Rublev made a special gesture at the conclusion of the event by gifting tennis rackets to the children, encouraging them to keep practicing and enjoying the sport while honing their newly acquired skills.
The event was not merely about sports; it was about creating a platform for understanding and inclusion, empowering children, and providing them with cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Rublev’s presence and commitment illuminated the path toward a more supportive society where children with autism can thrive, both on and off the court.
