Andrey Rublev Engages with Children from the Asyl Miras Autism Center

In a heartwarming event during the Almaty Open ATP 250 tournament, world-renowned tennis player Andrey Rublev took the time to meet with ten children from the Asyl Miras Autism Center. This initiative, organized by the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation (KTF), highlights a commendable tradition of connecting professional athletes with children from this special center aimed at providing support for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, which operates 13 autism centers across 12 cities in Kazakhstan, has championed this initiative as part of its commitment to offering access and inclusive experiences for children with ASD. Ainur Karbozova, the CEO of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, emphasized the importance of integrating children with ASD into all aspects of life, particularly sports. She noted that these interactions enrich not only the children's understanding of inclusion but also raise awareness among society at large.

During the event, Rublev engaged the children in activities that were specially tailored to accommodate their needs, including adapted ball-and-racket exercises and accuracy drills. These activities were designed with input from specialists at Asyl Miras and the KTF, ensuring that each child could engage with tennis in a way that was both enjoyable and fulfilling. For the children, it was not only a chance to be physically active but also a unique opportunity to bond with a professional athlete, fostering an environment of play and learning.

Rublev expressed his feelings about the event, sharing, "It was a great experience. First of all, it's always a pleasure to spend time with children. They teach you so much, and there's always something special about being part of that playful atmosphere." He acknowledged his background in tennis coaching, citing that his mother was a coach who instilled in him the values of mentorship and enjoyment in sports from a young age.

The interaction also provided Rublev with insight into autism and how to effectively engage with children affected by it. Throughout the day, he was not just an instructor but a participant, sharing laughs and creating memories with the kids.

After the activities concluded, Rublev further enriched the experience by presenting each child with tennis rackets, encouraging them to continue pursuing tennis and practicing the skills they had learned. Such gestures resonate deeply, fostering a spirit of giving back and reinforcing the connection between sports and community.

This event marks yet another occasion where professional tennis players have stepped up to support the initiatives of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation. Over the years, the Asyl Miras Autism Centers have been graced by the presence of other tennis luminaries such as Novak Djokovic, Elena Rybakina, and Carlos Alcaraz. This steadfast commitment to advocacy and community engagement underscores the deeper role that sports can play in promoting social responsibility and inclusion.

The gathering not only celebrated sporting achievement but also championed the message of inclusion and understanding. By bringing professional athletes into contact with children who face challenges like ASD, organizations like the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation and the KTF are helping to pave the way for a more inclusive society. As Rublev and the children parted ways, they carried with them new friendships, cherished memories, and a renewed understanding of the power of sport to unite and inspire individuals from all walks of life.
