Phil Blurton Makes History by Winning the American Off-Road Racing Championship UTV Titles

Phil Blurton Makes History in Off-Road Racing Championships

The thrilling finale of the American Off-Road Racing Championship (AORC) showcased the pinnacle of endurance and skill in the rugged Nevada desert. This weekend, Phil Blurton, a veteran in the Can-Am racing team, clinched the inaugural titles for the UTV Pro Champion and the Limited Overall Champion. His victory comes after a season filled with intense competition that began in January, culminating in a breathtaking showdown at the Laughlin Desert Classic.

Blurton’s relentless pursuit of excellence paired with the robust capabilities of Can-Am vehicles proved to be a winning formula, as he fought through numerous adversities to secure his place in racing history. The race weekend in Laughlin was nothing short of grueling, characterized by harsh desert terrain notorious for its punishing whoops and fast-paced washboard straightaways.

Competing fiercely against notable challenger Michael McFayden, who finished commendably in second place, Blurton's road to victory was marked by both triumphs and tribulations. “It was a nail-biting day,” he recounted, reflecting on the various mechanical issues faced throughout the season. Despite an underwhelming start to the race, circumstances took a dramatic turn when Blurton's chief rival was sidelined, setting the stage for an exhilarating finish. The final laps saw Blurton push his limits, and to his relief and elation, he crossed the finish line first, securing his spots atop the championship leaderboard.

“This Can-Am Maverick R was unreal all year long,” said Blurton. “I couldn’t have done it without Can-Am; their UTVs are truly amazing out here.” The intense competition at Laughlin also witnessed Michael McFayden showcasing superb skills, securing second overall in the UTV Pro Class after a podium finish on both race days.

“On day two, we finished P1 and were excited after a solid P2 on the first day. This Can-Am Maverick R held up beautifully,” McFayden remarked, further adding to the high-performance reputation of the Can-Am lineup.

The culmination of Blurton's hard work reflects his dedication and his team’s unwavering support throughout the season. Looking back at the year, he expressed profound gratitude and excitement about the future. “The 2026 season was amazing. I'm hopeful we can replicate this success in the 2027 AORC season,” he said.

As Blurton and his co-driver Jeff Gallegos celebrated their monumental achievements, the Can-Am brand emerged victorious in other respects as well. Thanks to the impressive performances by all Can-Am racers throughout the season, the company secured the inaugural Manufacturers Cup for the AORC season, establishing a legacy in off-road racing.

BRP Inc., the parent company of Can-Am, continues its tradition of innovation and excellence in powersports products, holding a reputable position in the industry. With roots running deep into over 80 years of automotive heritage, BRP continues to elevate the riding experience through cutting-edge technology and relentless passion.

As the dust settles on this season’s championship, both Phil Blurton and Michael McFayden exemplify the spirit and grit of off-road racing, paving the way for what promises to be an exhilarating upcoming season.
