Background and Purpose
Since the enforcement of Japan's Personal Information Protection Act in 2005, there has been a rising need for secure document disposal solutions. Yamato Transport began offering ECOBox services to corporate clients in 2006 and has been servicing about 900,000 units annually.
In recent years, as remote work becomes more common and work styles diversify, there is increasing feedback from individual customers expressing a desire for reliable document disposal. Issues such as inadequate shredding capabilities and privacy concerns about throwing documents directly into regular waste have fueled this demand.
To meet these needs, a pilot program was launched in June 2026 in the Kanto region, offering two smaller sizes of ECOBox. This initiative received positive feedback, particularly from seniors and small clinics that do not hold corporate contracts. The flexibility of ordering by single box without needing a contract was especially appreciated.
Due to the growing interest and the challenge of addressing previously unmet demands, Yamato Transport decided to expand the availability of the ECOBox service to all customers across the nation starting October 5, 2026.
Additionally, from October 5, Yamato will introduce a collaboration campaign with Hello Kitty, where customers purchasing an ECOBox kit will receive a Hello Kitty-themed clear file. More details on the campaign can be found on their
special campaign page.
