NASCLA Unites 16 States to Combat Unlicensed Contracting



The National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) has achieved a significant milestone with the conclusion of its 2025 National Coordinated Enforcement Effort. This powerful initiative brought together 16 state contractor licensing agencies in a concerted effort to enhance contractor oversight and protect consumers from unlicensed contractors. Building on the successes of the previous year, the 2025 campaign reaffirmed the commitment of NASCLA's members to uphold integrity and promote compliance within the construction industry.

Participating states included Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington. The collaboration was aimed at increasing public awareness about the importance of state regulatory agencies in ensuring fair competition and consumer protection.

Throughout the enforcement campaign, which took place from October 13 to 24, 2025, NASCLA's members executed a thorough investigation of 2,936 job sites across participating states. The outcome revealed a total of 922 cases and complaints related to potential violations of licensing laws. Following these investigations, various regulatory actions were implemented, including administrative penalties, criminal citations, and the initiation of further inquiries into the operations of non-compliant contractors.

"This year's initiative has showcased the power of collaboration among our state members," stated Angie Whitaker, Executive Director of NASCLA. She emphasized the importance of supporting a fair marketplace for licensed professionals while deterring unlicensed activities. This year’s efforts not only tackled the issues surrounding unlicensed contractors but also aimed to educate consumers about their rights and the legalities of hiring licensed professionals.
