Welcome to the 17th National Community Welfare Summit in Toshima
This February 28, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 4:50 PM, the
17th National Community Welfare Summit will take place at Taisho University, located in the vibrant Toshima area, renowned for its high population density and cultural significance. Organized by the Toshima Community Welfare Council, this event aims to foster discussions among community welfare activists about their experiences and practices.
Toshima has emerged as a microcosm of diversity, where various generations and cultures coalesce. With
Ikebukuro Station serving as a major transit hub, the area is enriched by a mix of commercial facilities, offices, and universities, along with a residential fabric where around 12% of the residents are of foreign nationality. Such demographic diversity lays a strong foundation for the spirit of coexistence and community building.
Throughout the event, participants will share insights and engage directly with one another, allowing for a day of fruitful discussions and shared learning. The summit will also emphasize the importance of integrating rich local history and culture, such as the birthplace of the
Somei Yoshino cherry blossom and famous spots like Sugamo and the historic Tokiwa-so, a manga artist's haven.
