Antigua and Barbuda Welcomes Zeekr 7X Electric Vehicles Ahead of CHOGM 2026
Government of Antigua and Barbuda Receives Electric Vehicles for CHOGM 2026
Antigua and Barbuda has reached a significant milestone in its preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2026, by receiving an impressive fleet of 20 electric vehicles, the Zeekr 7X, from Geely Motors. This official handover took place on November 2, 2026, following the vehicles' arrival at St. John's Harbour on November 1.
The vehicles were jointly presented by several dignitaries, including the Honorable E.P. Chet Greene, Antigua and Barbuda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Immigration, and Chair of the CHOGM 2026 Taskforce. The event was also honored by the presence of H.E. Jiang Wei, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda. The partnership between Geely Motors and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda is particularly noteworthy for the environmentally conscious approach it represents.
Minister Greene expressed gratitude to Geely Motors on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Honorable Gaston Browne, and the people of the nation. He stated, "We appreciate the support provided by Geely Motors in offering these transportation solutions for CHOGM 2026. It is our hope that the benefits of this collaboration will extend beyond the summit, positively impacting our roads and environment for years to come."
In addition to the acknowledgment of Geely Motors, Greene also expressed appreciation for the assistance from the Chinese Embassy, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in achieving sustainable solutions.
Ambassador Jiang Wei reiterated that China was proud to support Antigua and Barbuda's hosting of the CHOGM. He noted that similar support was provided for past international conferences, including the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States. The Ambassador stated, "We hope that this fleet of vehicles will contribute significantly to the success of Antigua and Barbuda as the host nation for the upcoming Commonwealth Meeting."
Bao Huanke (Echo), the Marketing Representative for Geely Motors in Mexico, acknowledged the trust and support received from the Government. She conveyed hopes that this initiative would pave the way for greater opportunities in expanding electric vehicle options within Antigua and Barbuda.
This initiative aligns with the directives set forth by Minister Greene, who tasked his ministry with exploring sustainable transportation options for CHOGM 2026. This collaboration was made possible through the considerable efforts of the Embassy of Antigua and Barbuda in the United Arab Emirates, led by H.E. Theon Ali, who is also the non-resident Ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic.
The delivery of the 20 Zeekr 7X vehicles is expected to enhance the transportation capabilities for the official delegation at CHOGM 2026. More importantly, it signifies Antigua and Barbuda's commitment to sustainability and low-emission transport solutions—a goal that aligns with global efforts to combat climate change.
As the CHOGM approaches, the anticipation builds not just for the discussions around pressing global issues, but also for showcasing environmental stewardship through such innovative transportation measures. The integration of the Zeekr 7X into the local system will not only aid in the effectiveness of the summit but also serve as a lasting legacy for the future of transportation in Antigua and Barbuda.
