Classic Recreations Reveals Innovative Carbon-Fiber Shelby GT500 at SEMA

Classic Recreations Unveils the Legendary Carbon-Fiber '67 Shelby GT500 at SEMA

Classic Recreations made a significant return to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, marking their first appearance under the impressive ownership of Velocity Restorations. This year, the spotlight shone brightly on the Shelby GT500CR, a remarkable tribute to the classic American muscle car, but with a modern twist: it features the world's only production carbon-fiber body for a 1967 Shelby, making it a must-see for enthusiasts.

Situated at the FuelTech booth (#24431) in the bustling Las Vegas Convention Center, the GT500CR has captured the attention of builders, suppliers, and auto media alike. Following its debut at the prestigious Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, the GT500CR showcases the rebirth of Classic Recreations with a blend of heritage and advanced engineering.

The unveiling at SEMA underscores a shift in how performance vehicles are evaluated—not just for aesthetic or collector appeal but also for engineering prowess and innovation. Jerry Mazur, founder of Classic Recreations, stated that SEMA is the perfect venue for this showcase, allowing the brand to present its engineering advancements in the limited-production supercar segment. Each GT500CR Carbon vehicle is officially licensed by Shelby and documented in the Shelby Worldwide Registry, adding credibility and allure.

The heart of the GT500CR Carbon lies in its impressive engineering. Powering this beast is a Wegner-built Gen 4X Coyote V8 engine, which boasts a Whipple 3.0-liter inverted supercharger. Together, these components produce a staggering 1,000 horsepower, seamlessly managed by a FuelTech FT700 standalone ECU that ensures precise power delivery through its innovative traction control system. A Suncoast 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission coupled with a Panhandle Driveline carbon-fiber driveshaft guarantees efficient power transfer.

One of the standout features of this supercar is its advanced performance management technology, designed to extract every ounce of performance while keeping the vehicle manageable. Cody Dabney, Director of Production at Velocity and Classic Recreations, emphasized that true power only matters if the driver can effectively harness it. This philosophy guided the design and engineering of the GT500CR Carbon.

In terms of suspension, the GT500CR Carbon utilizes a Detroit Speed Aluma-Frame front suspension system complemented by a QuadraLink rear setup. The Nitron Elec-Tron electronically controlled shocks allow for adjustable ride height and comfort, providing a driving experience that blends agility with luxury. Stopping power is courtesy of cutting-edge Brembo CCM-R carbon-ceramic brakes, with large discs and calipers that ensure adequate braking performance under high-speed conditions.

The exterior, clad in a stunning BASF Glasurit paint finish, not only highlights its aerodynamic curves but also signifies craftsmanship through custom features like Ringbrothers hood and trunk hinges. This attention to detail extends to its unique wheel design, where Forgeline Carbon Grudge wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires deliver optimal traction.

Inside, the GT500CR Carbon combines comfort and technology with Scheel-Mann seats, a bespoke console, and technology such as a Dakota Digital cluster and Vintage Air A/C system. Audio enthusiasm is met with a Focal K2 speaker system, ensuring a thrilling auditory experience while cruising in this iconic vehicle.

FuelTech’s technology, relied upon by racers, stands testament to the efficiency and performance of the GT500CR Carbon's engineering marvels. Anderson Dick, founder and CEO of FuelTech, shared his excitement about the vehicle, stating that it exemplifies how their technology can elevate performance cars to new heights, creating a special blend of heritage and innovation.

SEMA 2026 attendees are in for a treat with the opportunity to witness this extraordinary vehicle up close. Classic Recreations continues to redefine the landscape of American muscle cars, reinforcing their position as a significant player in the automotive world.
