Seminar on Walkable Gardens Near Oji Station
Event Title: Realizing Oji Station's Walkable Garden through New Development and Challenges
Date and Time: August 4, 2025, 13:30 - 15:30 (JST)
The Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a seminar featuring North Ward's mayor, Kanako Yamada, as the speaker addressing the development and challenges surrounding Oji Station's walkable garden initiative. This event is intended for urban planners, local government officials, and interested citizens eager to contribute and learn about sustainable urban development.
Event Overview
Oji Station and its surrounding area have been a bustling center for interaction and commerce since the Edo period, evolving significantly in the Meiji era and continuing to expand as a crucial transportation hub. Despite its rich history and potential, the current environment near the station faces several hurdles such as a lack of pedestrian space, greenery, and a low concentration of commercial establishments. In response, the North Ward is spearheading a transformative urban design centered around the relocation of the city hall.
During the seminar, various initiatives aimed at revitalizing the area will be detailed, including the construction of a new city hall, redevelopment efforts at the station, and enhancing the appeal of Asukayama Park. All these projects are designed to leverage the unique characteristics and resources of Oji, aiming for substantial urban transformation.
