MADD Teams Up with Uber to Launch Year-End Fundraising Campaign
Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) has announced an impactful year-end fundraising campaign in collaboration with Uber, encouraging all to contribute on Giving Tuesday, December 2. With the pressing need to combat impaired driving, this initiative features a generous matching gift of $50,000 from Uber, effectively doubling the donations received on that day. This marks the beginning of MADD's holiday fundraising efforts, aimed at providing support to victims and survivors of impaired driving incidents.
The holiday season notoriously experiences a rise in drunk driving incidents, with statistics alarming; a victim is killed or injured every 85 seconds in a drunk driving-related incident, a crime that is entirely preventable. The tragic reality is that impaired driving deaths surged by 22% since 2019, prompting MADD to take decisive action and calling on America to mobilize against this crisis.
"This Giving Tuesday, we have a unique opportunity to convert generosity into life-saving impacts," stated Stacey D. Stewart, the CEO of MADD. She further emphasized the vital role of Uber’s $50,000 matching contribution in amplifying MADD’s mission. The need for support is pressing; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported over 13,000 alcohol-related fatalities in 2023, illustrating a stringent upward trend in impaired driving incidences.
The dual-pronged funding model provided by Uber also consists of an additional $25,000 earmarked for National Impaired Driving Prevention Month rolling throughout December. This strategic pledge enables MADD to maximize engagement on Giving Tuesday while maintaining momentum for year-end donations.
MADD is dedicated to actively prompting legislative change and societal awareness on this issue. The organization is advocating for the full implementation of the HALT Drunk Driving Law, which mandates advanced impaired driving prevention technology in all new vehicles. Additionally, MADD works hand in hand with law enforcement agencies and communities to ensure road safety.
Their extensive support structure includes providing free, round-the-clock services to victims and families affected by intoxicated driving, alongside leading proactive educational programs targeted at youth and parents aimed at preventing future incidents.
The impact of donations made on Giving Tuesday will directly support MADD's programs, especially considering that Uber is matching donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000. Contributions received throughout December will further bolster MADD's total campaign goal of $75,000. Kristin Smith, Uber's Global Head of Road Safety Policy stated, "No one should have to endure losing a loved one to an impaired driver. This Giving Tuesday, we proudly support MADD to amplify the effect of every dollar raised, working together towards safer roads for everyone."
Individuals and corporate donors are encouraged to contribute on December 2 by visiting www.madd.org/donate, ensuring that each dollar has double the impact. The MADD Network collaborates tirelessly with various corporate partners, including Uber, Amica Insurance, Diageo North America, Nationwide, the NFL, and UKG to secure funding that enhances public safety and brings communities together in the fight against impaired driving.
Founded in 1980, MADD has positioned itself as a leading national nonprofit dedicated to abolishing impaired driving completely. Over the years, their efforts have resulted in a drastic reduction of drunk driving fatalities in the United States by over 40%, saving countless lives and offering assistance to nearly one million victims and survivors of these preventable tragedies.
