A Journey into History: The Third Hino Civic University Event
The Hino Civic University is proud to host the third installment of its educational series titled "The New Selected Troops and Kenjutsu Related to Hino." This event, which marks significant strides in local history and martial arts, will take place on October 25th, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 3:15 PM at the Central Welfare Center located in Hino City's Honmachi District.
This year, we celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Hino Shinsengumi Guide Association, presided over by Takakazu Serikawa, our esteemed speaker for the event. Serikawa will delve into the life of Hijikata Toshizou, one of the most notable figures of the Shinsengumi during his time in Hino. Attendees can look forward to an enriching lecture that will unravel the myths surrounding Hijikata, bringing to light the true character and experiences of this legendary swordsman.

In the first half, Takakazu Serikawa, who also serves as the president of the Hino Shinsengumi Guide Association, will deliver a fascinating lecture. He aims to provide deeper insights into the historical significance of Hijikata's life in Hino, illustrating not only his martial skills but also his role within the context of the Shinsengumi. This presentation will appeal to history enthusiasts, martial arts practitioners, and anyone interested in Japan's rich cultural heritage.
Martial Arts Demonstration
The latter half of the event will feature a live demonstration by practitioners of the Tennen Rishin-ryu, the school of martial arts that emphasizes traditional sword techniques. Known for its dynamic and effective approach to kenjutsu, this demonstration promises to engage the audience, showcasing skills passed down through generations. The participants from the Hino Dojo will exemplify the essence of this ancient art, allowing everyone present to gain a first-hand experience of its timeless appeal.
