NABEP Restarts Key Furnace in Orinoco Belt for Oil Production Boost
North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) Restarts Key Furnace
On October 31, 2026, North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) announced the successful restart of a key furnace at its Zuata 2 facility within the Orinoco Belt. This critical development marks the end of a five-year hiatus and is anticipated to greatly boost the company's oil production by adding between 8,000 to 10,000 barrels per day in the coming weeks.
The furnace is essential for processing the extra-heavy crude oil extracted at Zuata 2, heating the oil to required temperatures for further treatment stages. Given that the crude oil comes out of the ground mixed with water, this heating process is crucial for separating the two components, ensuring the oil meets the saleable standard of less than 2% water content.
NABEP undertook extensive repairs, technical inspections, and mechanical testing prior to the furnace's restart. With the processing chain now capable of handling approximately 210,000 barrels per day, there is significant growth potential for the Zuata 2 facility.
