American Tungsten and Antimony Initiates Scoping Study for Tungsten Production in Nevada

American Tungsten and Antimony Initiates Scoping Study

American Tungsten & Antimony, Ltd., trading on the Australian Stock Exchange as AT4 and OTCQX as ATALF, is making strides in its tungsten production endeavors by recently appointing Metso Finland Oy to conduct a comprehensive Scoping Study. This pivotal study focuses on the development of an ammonium paratungstate (APT) production circuit at the Del Sol Refinery, located in Amargosa Valley, Nevada. The initial design in the study proposes a noteworthy production capacity of 2,500 tons per annum for tungsten APT, with aspirations for future expansion reaching 5,000 tons annually.

CEO Casper Adson emphasized the strategic importance of tungsten, categorizing it as one of the most critical commodities required by the United States. With various industries, particularly defense, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing, relying heavily on tungsten, establishing a domestic supply chain has become an urgent national security concern. Adson remarked, "Rebuilding the ability to convert tungsten concentrate into tungsten APT domestically is a significant national interest."

The initiative also points to a larger trend where reliance on offshore supply chains poses risks to the security of vital materials. The ongoing Scoping Study is expected to provide insights not just into the technical feasibility of the production circuit but also to outline a pathway for governmental support aligned with national interests.

In late July, the company disclosed its intentions to fully acquire the Del Sol Refinery, which is already constructed and permitted for hydrometallurgical processing of antimony. Adson noted the advantages of upgrading within the existing plant's footprint rather than starting afresh, as this could notably cut both capital expenses and the timeline for beginning production.

Moreover, American Tungsten & Antimony's strategic positioning aligns well with the recent U.S. Executive Order (#14415) signed in July 2026. This order mandates that U.S. defense contractors source covered materials either domestically or from allied nations, tightening regulations on the procurement of foreign materials. As January 1, 2027, approaches, contractors will face heightened scrutiny and must demonstrate their efforts in sourcing from domestic suppliers.

The company’s initiatives go beyond just the Del Sol Refinery. American Tungsten & Antimony is dedicated to advancing a diversified portfolio of projects that include critical minerals like antimony and tungsten in both Utah and Nevada. These minerals are recognized as essential to enhancing U.S. security and supporting advanced manufacturing capabilities. In its pursuit, the company’s flagship Antimony Canyon Project in Utah stands alongside several other tungsten-focused projects in Nevada and Utah, including Tennessee Mountain, Fraction Lode, Nightengale, Sage Hen, and Dutch Mountain.

With the formation of its partnerships and initiatives, American Tungsten & Antimony is poised to play a crucial role in revitalizing domestic production capabilities for tungsten as well as antimony, further securing the foundation of U.S. manufacturing and defense industries. Stakeholders and industry watchers will be keenly observing how developments unfold at the Del Sol Refinery and how these projects align with the changing landscape of U.S. industrial policies.
