Fodere's New Prototype Plant in Mississippi to Advance Critical Minerals Production
Fodere Critical Minerals Announces Prototype Plant in Mississippi
Fodere Critical Minerals Limited, along with its North American affiliate, Fodere America LLC, has unveiled plans to create a prototype processing plant for critical minerals in Monroe County, Mississippi. This significant step represents the company's ambition to deploy its proprietary technology aimed at recovering valuable metals from underutilized industrial residues, thus paving the way for future commercial operations in the United States.
Why Mississippi?
The decision to establish the plant in Mississippi was lauded by Jeffry N. Quinn, the CEO of Fodere. He highlighted the state's commitment to advanced manufacturing and critical minerals, along with the seasoned industrial workforce present in Monroe County. Quinn noted, “We believe Mississippi is the right place for Fodere to take the next step,” emphasizing the supportive community that understands the importance of heavy industry.
Innovative Technology in Focus
Fodere has devised a unique processing platform designed specifically to extract valuable metals from complex feedstocks, including industrial residues, lower-grade resources, and tailings. The upcoming prototype facility will showcase this advanced technology on a production-representative scale, relying primarily on domestic materials. Expected outputs from the plant include synthetic rutile-grade titanium dioxide and vanadium pentoxide, among other co-products. By validating the technology's efficiency in this prototype stage, Fodere aims to establish a baseline for future commercial-scale production facilities.
Creating Value from Waste
Quinn expressed optimism about the potential of turning historically viewed industrial waste into a source of critical minerals, contributing to a more secure domestic supply chain. He stated, “We are proud to begin building that future in Mississippi,” reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Fodere's method integrates low-temperature thermal treatment with selective hydrometallurgical recovery, which allows for the sequential extraction of multiple products from complex mineral and industrial residues. This innovative approach has already received validation through tests conducted on various unconventional feedstocks sourced from multiple continents, ensuring that the technology can adapt to different mineral compositions.
Future Prospects and Federal Proposal
The prototype plant is set to not only validate Fodere’s technological advancements but also to explore federal financial backing. On September 17, 2026, Fodere America submitted a Phase I proposal aimed at securing up to $75 million in federal support to enhance domestic processing capabilities for critical minerals, including titanium and vanadium. While the outcome of the federal proposal remains uncertain, it represents another facet of Fodere's strategic plan in bringing the project to fruition.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
Fodere America has already initiated discussions regarding the acquisition of a 56-acre light-industrial site in Prairie, Monroe County, for the prototype plant. The company has established partnerships with an engineering, construction, and permitting team to drive the project forward. COO Melissa Zona stated, “Our work in Prairie now turns to site diligence, environmental assessment, and permitting with the State and Monroe County,” indicating their commitment to transparent collaboration with local officials and harnessing the regional industrial workforce.
About Fodere America
Fodere America LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, has been entrusted with the exclusive rights to roll out Fodere’s technology across North America. The company operates under a license granted by Fodere Critical Minerals Limited, a UK-based company recognized for its innovative technology for reclaiming critical minerals from industrial waste.
As Fodere embarks on this ambitious project in Mississippi, it not only underscores its commitment to enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities but also reflects a broader movement towards sustainable resource management in the critical minerals sector. This initiative is expected to forge new pathways for innovation while supporting economic growth within the local community and beyond.
