Blue River PetCare and Purina Unite for National Pet Food Drive Supporting Shelters

Nationwide Pet Food Drive: Helping Pets in Need

In a heartwarming initiative this November, Blue River PetCare and Purina are teaming up to launch a nationwide Community Pet Food Drive aimed at supporting local shelters and animal rescues. From now until November 30, 143 veterinary hospitals across 127 cities and 37 states will gather donations of pet food from animal lovers, clients, and community members. This collaborative effort seeks to serve the pets in our communities that require assistance and demonstrates the powerful connections formed when teams work together.

Mandy Lichtig, Vice President of Field Operations at Blue River PetCare, expressed the significance of this initiative, stating, "Caring for pets extends beyond the walls of our hospitals. Our teams are deeply connected to their local communities, and this food drive gives our hospitals, clients, and neighbors a way to come together and support shelters and rescues doing vital work for pets every day."

The pet food drive plans to directly support 134 local animal welfare organizations, ensuring that donations can immediately benefit the pets in those communities. Anyone wishing to contribute can drop off pet food at participating hospitals. This campaign not only satisfies an ongoing need for local animal shelters but also raises awareness about the challenges they face daily.

In addition to collecting donations, Purina is extending its reach by providing additional resources to the shelters and rescues involved in the initiative. "At Purina, we believe pets and people are better together, and that connection is at the heart of everything we do," says Kurt Venator, DVM, PhD, Chief Veterinary Officer at Purina. "By joining forces with Blue River PetCare and veterinary teams across the country, we're helping communities provide food and care to animals in need, eventually helping those pets find loving homes."

Supporting the Transition to Loving Homes

This year's Community Pet Food Drive is particularly designed not just to aid pets in shelters but also to ease their transition into forever homes. New adopters from partnering shelters will receive a voucher for a complimentary wellness exam at their nearest Blue River PetCare clinic. This initiative is a vital step in connecting adopted pets with veterinarians, encouraging responsible pet ownership and the necessity of regular veterinary care.

Moreover, community members who donate during this drive will be eligible to receive a thank-you coupon from Purina for www.proplanvetdirect.com, which can be redeemed through participating Blue River clinics. With 40 coupons available per hospital and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, it provides an additional incentive for community participation while stocks last.

Purina Pro Plan offers a variety of over 140 specialized formulas to meet dogs' and cats' unique nutritional needs, supporting them at every stage of life, ensuring that pet owners can find the perfect match for their furry friends’ dietary requirements. This includes tailoring diets based on breed size, sensitivities, and lifestyle situations.
