Kakujo Fishery's Exquisite Ehomaki Rolls to Celebrate Setsubun
Kakujo Fishery Holdings Inc., renowned for its dedication to fresh seafood, will begin accepting reservations for its specially crafted Ehomaki rolls starting January 13, 2026, ahead of Setsubun on February 3. This year, the theme for their offerings is “Dispelling Misfortune, Inviting Good Fortune,” and each roll is crafted by hand to ensure quality and taste.
A Tradition of Luck and Deliciousness
Every year, Kakujo Fishery has garnered immense support from customers, thanks to their delicious and plentiful Ehomaki rolls, which blend various seafood delights like medium fatty tuna, sea urchin, and salmon roe. In the previous year, they sold an astounding 127,000 rolls, illustrating their popularity during this festive season.
Besides the Ehomaki, the stores also offer traditional items like Tekkamaki and other sushi favorites. When combined with the Ehomaki, total sales exceeded 170,000 rolls on Setsubun, showcasing the strong demand for these seasonal delicacies.
Three Types of Ehomaki for 2026
Kakujo Fishery offers three types of Ehomaki rolls for 2026, each showcasing unique flavors and luxurious ingredients:
1.
Seafood Ehomaki – The most popular option, this roll is filled with a fantastic mix of tuna, salmon, sea bass, ikura, boiled eel, and shrimp, containing an impressive 240g of seafood. Priced at 1,700 yen (1,300 yen for half), each roll emphasizes the quality of fresh ingredients expertly rolled together.
2.
Takumi Ehomaki – This premium roll features top-grade medium fatty tuna, along with 12 luxurious desserts, including uni, crab, and more, totaling around 300g of seafood. Priced at 2,500 yen (1,250 yen for half), it offers a rich and indulgent experience.
3.
Kakujo Ehomaki – A traditional roll embodying core ingredients like salmon, tuna, and egg, priced at 900 yen (450 yen for half). This roll connects customers to the essence of Ehomaki, promoting prosperity and good health.
Reservation Details
Starting January 13 at all 21 Kakujo Fishery outlets, customers can reserve their favorite Ehomaki rolls until the specified deadline, unique to each location. Reservations can only be made in-store, and customers will receive a ticket for collection on the day of payment.
In Japan, the custom of eating Ehomaki while facing a specific direction—this year's is South-Southeast—is believed to harness the blessings of the deity Toshitokujin, ensuring a year free from sickness and promoting business success.
The Lucky Seven Ingredients
The Kakujo Ehomaki contains seven distinct ingredients, a reference to the Seven Lucky Gods of Japanese tradition, believed to bring prosperity and longevity. Items like kanpyo (dried gourd strips) symbolize long life, while the golden-hued tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) is believed to enhance fortunes. Each ingredient plays a vital role in inviting good luck and blessings for those who partake.
Fish Experts at Your Service
Kakujo Fishery also prides itself on providing extensive customer support with its “Shinsetsu-eki”—fish concierges who assist customers in selecting and preparing seafood. They share detailed insights about the fish and offer preparation tips, ensuring customers experience the best quality products.
