Empowering Women Drivers: Vantage's Initiative in Indonesia with Grab

Vantage and Grab: Driving Change for Women in Indonesia

Vantage Markets, alongside its philanthropic arm, the Vantage Foundation, has undertaken an initiative to empower women drivers in Indonesia through the Grab platform. This program, known as Wiramudi Grab and part of the #TradeforHope initiative, aims to create economic opportunities for women in urban areas across the country.

The initiative ran from November 2024 to January 2025 and has been groundbreaking, impacting over 3,400 women in cities such as Jakarta, Bali, Medan, Bandung, Makassar, Semarang, and Yogyakarta. Participants were provided with essential resources to thrive in the transportation industry, including initial capital, necessary equipment, and financial incentives designed to help them establish a sustainable income.

Successful Program Implementation

The results of the initiative have been promising, with 1,400 new women drivers being hired and an additional 2,000 previously inactive drivers reinstated. Each participant received a complimentary driver’s kit that included jackets and helmets, alongside incentives that encouraged their return to work.

A notable aspect of this initiative is its clear economic impact: women who received support through this program completed 13% more trips compared to those who did not participate. This not only led to increased financial stability but also to an essential boost in confidence and community support among the drivers. One participant, Purwati, shared her insights, stating, “Being a Grab driver has not only allowed me to earn my own money, but it also gave me valuable skills and the assurance I needed to forge a new career path.”

Breaking Barriers

The Wiramudi Grab program illustrates the strength of corporate social responsibility and strategic partnerships in advancing economic rights and workforce integration. By dismantling barriers that previously kept women from entering the transport industry, this initiative has paved the way for thousands of women to earn reliable income, ultimately contributing to greater gender diversity within Indonesia's passenger transport sector.

Marc Despallieres, CEO of Vantage Markets, spoke on the importance of this collaboration, saying, “At Vantage Markets, we believe in making financial independence a reality for all. Our commitment to support initiatives that enact real change is unwavering. Together with Vantage Foundation and Grab Indonesia, we have shown the powerful impact of collective action in cultivating significant societal shifts.”

Through the provision of resources, training, and financial support, Vantage Markets is not just aiding women in gaining a stable income; they are facilitating the creation of a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Looking Ahead

The #TradeForHope campaign is part of Vantage's ongoing mission to embed social responsibility within its operations. By launching initiatives such as this, Vantage is fostering a more equitable and sustainable future for the communities it serves.
