Cadillac Formula 1 Team Unveils Historic First Livery
In a thrilling and historic moment for American motorsport, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team has revealed the livery of its inaugural Formula 1 challenger. This significant step forward for the team was showcased during the highly anticipated Super Bowl LX, a global television event watched by millions. The livery, which features a striking black and white design, is set to accompany the team on its journey as it competes in the 2026 Formula 1 season, fulfilling a long-held aspiration to enter this premier racing championship.
The unveiling not only signifies a new chapter for American participation in Formula 1 but also marks the beginning of an exciting journey for Cadillac in the sport, as they line up as the 11th team in the competition. The team opted for the Super Bowl as the platform for their reveal, knowing that the event attracts an audience of over 130 million viewers, showcasing their bold ambition to connect with fans on a global scale.
Right after the ad aired, a replica of the team’s race car made its debut in Times Square, demonstrating the distinctive livery design in one of the busiest locations in the United States. This innovative dual-color scheme incorporates one black side and one white side, creating a dynamic visual that symbolizes both speed and balance. The design features a Cadillac chevron, subtly intertwining the rich legacy of General Motors with the iconography of Cadillac.
The livery reveal was artfully presented in a film directed by Sam Piling, known for his impactful visual storytelling. The score, composed by Max Richter, adds a layer of emotional depth, enhancing the overall narrative of this major announcement. The careful use of asymmetry in the livery reflects a philosophical approach, channeling a balance between grit, aspiration, and determination—qualities that Cadillac aims to embody in Formula 1.
Dan Towriss, CEO of Cadillac Formula 1 Team Holdings, emphasized the significance of the livery, stating, "This livery represents far more than a paint scheme; it embodies our identity and what we aim to bring to Formula 1. Every detail is infused with intention—bold, modern, and unmistakably American, yet honoring the heritage of this prestigious sport."
Mark Reuss, President of General Motors, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that the unveiling marks a pivotal milestone after years of hard work to gain a place on the grid and develop a competitive race car. As they prepare for their debut at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 6-8, excitement is building among the team and their supporters.
The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will compete in 24 races across the 2026 season, visiting iconic tracks worldwide, including notable events on American soil at the Miami International Autodrome, the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, and the Las Vegas Strip Circuit.
Graeme Lowdon, the Team Principal, expressed tremendous pride in the team's bold livery. He stated, "Our reveal during one of the most culturally significant sporting events in the world is a testament to our commitment to innovation and leadership within the sport. We are thrilled to connect with fans in ways that Formula 1 teams traditionally haven’t before."
With headquarters based in Indianapolis, Indiana, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Silverstone, Northamptonshire, U.K., the Cadillac Formula 1 Team is built on strong foundations of engineering excellence, brought to life through partnership with TWG Motorsports and General Motors. Together, they create a robust infrastructure aimed at achieving high-performance results.
On the track, the team will be spearheaded by drivers Checo Pérez and Valtteri Bottas. With a record of over 526 race starts, 106 podiums, and 16 wins between them, this pairing of seasoned drivers promises to propel the team into competitive contention.
