Overview of the Real-World Learning Programs
In August 2025, the Kawai Juku Group, in collaboration with NTT East Japan, is set to unveil a comprehensive learning experience aimed at middle and high school students known as the “Marutto Tankyu” program. This hybrid program combines immersive, real-world experiences with cutting-edge digital technology and is designed to foster the next generation of global leaders through in-depth exploration of regional challenges.
The first installment of this initiative rolled out in March, spotlighting healthcare. Students from across the nation convened in Sapporo, visiting general hospitals and local clinics, gaining insights into existing medical issues through comprehensive exploration.
The upcoming activities include the 'Food and Agriculture' segment in Hokkaido's Tokachi region and the 'Business Creation' episode at NTTe-City Labo in Chofu City, Tokyo. The objectives of these programs are twofold: to engage the youth with tangible experiences relating to society's challenges, and to inspire innovative solutions using the latest digital advancements.
Immersive Experiences in Tokachi, Hokkaido
The 'Food and Agriculture' segment promises participants an unparalleled sensory experience in one of Japan's most fertile agricultural regions. Students will engage in hands-on activities, including harvesting produce, milking cows, and even making ice cream using fresh milk. This program allows them to grasp the complexities of 'production, processing, distribution, and consumption' from diverse perspectives.
This immersive journey includes collaboration with local high school students, where the participants will work together to design promotional materials for their harvested goods, which they will later sell at Kasai Rinkai Park in Tokyo. Additionally, participants will visit wholesale markets to observe bidding processes and listen to local farmers, enriching their understanding of agricultural dynamics and market trends.
The backdrop of Japan's agricultural struggles, such as an aging workforce and the lack of successors, alongside recent spikes in vegetable prices and rice shortages, underscores the importance of this program. Participants will find themselves equipped with knowledge about the current state of food and agriculture, as well as thinking critically about future possibilities.
