In a significant initiative, the non-profit organization Sankakusha has collaborated with Heralbony, a creative company based in Iwate Prefecture and Tokyo, to provide young people aged 15 to 25 with hands-on experience in employment. The project involves the production of training tools for Heralbony’s program, "HERALBONY ACADEMY," aimed at helping youth who cannot rely on parents or trusted adults.

This collaboration offers a chance for these youth to engage in officially sanctioned work, thereby encouraging their participation in society and helping them earn compensation for their contributions.

Bridging the Gap for Disconnected Youth

Recent societal trends have highlighted the challenges faced by isolated and struggling young individuals, with terms like "to-yoko kids" and "dark part-time jobs" coming into focus. A survey conducted by Sankakusha in May 2025 revealed that out of 106 connected youths, about 80% expressed a desire to work, yet around 60% hesitated due to anxiety about interpersonal relationships.

Many voiced concerns such as:

• - "I want to work, but I lack confidence due to my minimal experience."
• - "I have few opportunities to meet trustworthy adults, making workplace communication daunting."

Recognizing the importance of preparing these youths for employment, Sankakusha emphasizes the need for structured support in the stages preceding job readiness. By cultivating a secure environment for young people to take their first steps toward employment, they can gradually build confidence and the skills necessary for the workforce.

The Workshop Experience with Heralbony

As part of this initiative, youth linked to Sankakusha actively participated in creating training tools for the newly launched "HERALBONY ACADEMY". Prior to the production phase, Heralbony representatives visited the Sankakusha's multi-faceted employment support hub, "Sankaku Square", to deliver workshops over two days. These sessions included direct communication about the program's objectives and goals, fostering an interactive environment where youth could engage with business representatives.

Despite the initial trepidation associated with unfamiliar tasks, the young participants dedicated themselves to the project. Upon completion, they were compensated for their work, reinforcing the value of their efforts.

Sankakusha is preparing to launch a new center, "Sankaku Square," by July 2025 to broaden its efforts to support youth transitions into the workforce. This initiative will create a nurturing environment for youth, combining support from staff and collaboration with local businesses, which will gradually foster their confidence to work.

Through such initiatives, Sankakusha aims to create a sustainable ecosystem that empowers young individuals. Those who inadvertently connect with exploitative jobs or “dark part-time jobs” often do so out of a dire need for employment that lacks a secure foundation. Thus, fostering reliable experiences and connections with understanding adults is paramount.

Sankakusha's goal is to establish a "Supportive Economy for Youth," allowing young people to develop their skills and earn proper compensation. The partnership with Heralbony marks a vital step in this ambition.
