Kizuki and Kumon's Collaboration for Youth Education
Kizuki Co., Ltd., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has announced a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with Kumon Educational Research Institute. Beginning October 1, 2025, the two organizations will collaboratively introduce a program specifically designed for youth in seven juvenile correctional facilities in the Kansai region. This program, focusing on providing effective learning support geared towards future employment, reflects Kizuki's ongoing commitment to assisting at-risk youth, particularly those who have dropped out of school.
The Vision Behind the Initiative
The primary aim of this program is to tackle the fundamental educational challenges that ex-inmates face upon re-entering the workforce. Kizuki aims to address the significant concern raised by employers of youth who have previously been incarcerated, who have noted that a lack of foundational academic skills often results in job failure and turnover. Moreover, current educational interventions within detention centers have struggled to provide customized instruction that meets each student’s unique learning pace.
Kizuki's Role and Responsibilities
As part of the research initiative, Kizuki has been entrusted with specific responsibilities by Kumon Educational Research Institute. These include:
- - Delivering Kumon-style educational support to selected youth in the specified institutions.
- - Preparing learning materials, guiding study sessions, grading assignments, and creating classroom newsletters.
- - Offering advice and information to those youth who express a desire to seek employment.
- - Establishing and managing a robust educational framework that includes program leaders responsible for overall coordination.
Through these tailored educational interventions, Kizuki aims not only to enhance the fundamental academic capabilities of these young individuals but also to promote self-esteem and motivation through successful learning experiences.
Program Implementation and Broader Goals
Kizuki is committed to utilizing insights garnered from this research initiative to propose effective learning support systems that mitigate educational inequities and combat social isolation faced by many youth. By fostering stronger ties with local governments and businesses, Kizuki plans to play an active role in addressing systemic social issues moving forward.
