BMO Donates $3 Million for Wildfire Relief and Recovery Efforts in Los Angeles

In a significant act of support for communities devastated by wildfires, BMO has announced its pledge to donate a remarkable $3 million to local organizations in the Los Angeles area. This contribution aims to assist with immediate relief efforts and the long-term recovery and rebuilding processes following the recent catastrophic fires. According to Darrel Hackett, CEO of BMO US, the scale of the disaster has been overwhelming, stressing their ongoing commitment to the thousands impacted and the emergency responders risking their lives for aid. This pledge is a reflection of BMO's dedication to the Southern California communities they serve, especially as the arduous process of rebuilding begins.

Earlier this week, BMO held a conference in Los Angeles aimed at engaging leaders within the construction and engineering sectors, discussing strategies for supporting rebuilding efforts and fostering collaboration throughout the industry. The recent donation builds upon an earlier commitment of $100,000 made to two local organizations, the United Way LA (UWLA) Wildfire Response Fund and Direct Relief Wildfire Response. Furthermore, BMO continues its annual support for the American Red Cross Disaster Response Emergency Fund, reinforcing its proactive role in disaster preparedness and recovery.

In conjunction with these efforts, BMO Stadium will serve as a distribution center for necessities such as clothing and supplies for wildfire victims on January 17. This initiative will be coordinated by the American Red Cross alongside professional sports teams in Los Angeles, including LAFC and Angel City FC. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers will distribute personal hygiene kits, food, water, and other essential items to those in need. Residents and businesses in affected areas can find support information at BMO.com.

BMO's commitment to community service extends beyond disaster relief, with a mission to help communities thrive by supporting local organizations and encouraging employee volunteerism and donations. Over the past year, BMO has made a significant social impact, donating over $84 million to various charitable organizations across North America, while their employees volunteered roughly 62,000 hours and contributed over $31 million in donations through their annual employee giving program.
