ALTA Foundation Provides $10,000 Grant for Los Angeles Firefighters Amidst Ongoing Crisis

ALTA Foundation Provides Crucial Support in Los Angeles Fire Relief

In light of the recent catastrophic fires engulfing parts of Los Angeles County, the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation has stepped in to make a significant difference. On January 13, 2025, the foundation announced a generous $10,000 emergency grant aimed at supporting the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Foundation.

The fires that began on January 7 have otherwise claimed the lives of at least 24 individuals and left numerous others missing, while scorching approximately 60 square miles. Faced with such devastation, the LAFD Foundation focuses on supporting the dedicated team of over 3,500 firefighters and emergency personnel who bravely confront these dangers every day.

Diane Tomb, CEO of ALTA, expressed the profound sorrow felt in witnessing the devastation, noting, "It's heartbreaking to see the immense challenges the recent fires have brought to the Los Angeles community, leaving families and lives forever changed, and homes lost." The emergency grant aims to provide firefighters and paramedics with essential resources necessary for their life-saving work. Tomb emphasized the commitment of the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation to serve communities across the nation, embodying the spirit of support from the title insurance industry.

Mary O'Donnell, the Chair of the Foundation Board and president & CEO of Westcor Land Title Insurance Company, highlighted the role of fire responders. She stated, "Firefighters are often the first line of defense during natural disasters, and their bravery and dedication inspire us all." The contributions from ALTA members enable the foundation to offer critical assistance to affected communities, reinforcing the need for a robust support system during fires.

The grant awarded by the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation is aimed specifically at meeting high-impact needs for local fire departments. It enables the purchase of essential firefighting equipment, technology, and training programs, enhancing their efficacy in handling such emergencies. More than 90% of each donated dollar is directed towards these high-impact initiatives, which could include resources like thermal imaging cameras, hydration backpacks, and structure fire gloves.

Since its inception in October 2020, the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation has made a substantial impact, distributing over $1.1 million in grants to assist 192 local nonprofits across the United States. Its mission is to bolster charitable efforts within communities and promote the core values of the title industry: leadership, service delivery, and protection.

The American Land Title Association (ALTA) has played a crucial role in the land title insurance sector since its establishment in 1907 and continues to lead such initiatives that emphasize community unity and resilience.

In a time where communities are seeking help amidst unprecedented challenges, the foundation's contribution not only aids immediate recovery efforts but embodies a spirit of solidarity and commitment to supporting those who put their lives on the line for the safety of others.
