West Virginia American Water Embarks on Major Infrastructure Project Worth $700,000 in Glen Jean

Major Infrastructure Project in Glen Jean by West Virginia American Water

West Virginia American Water has recently announced a significant investment aimed at enhancing the water infrastructure in Glen Jean. This $700,000 project will take place on McKell Avenue and is part of a broader initiative to improve aging infrastructure that has served the community for many years.

According to Scott Wyman, President of West Virginia American Water, “Investing in our infrastructure is an investment in the communities we serve.” This project reflects the company’s commitment to providing safe and reliable drinking water to its customers while ensuring that the systems can sustain future demands.

The planned improvements will see the replacement of 3,740 feet of deteriorating pipes with updated 6-inch and 2-inch PVC mains. The work will span from Main Street to Collins Hill Road, including additional sections on Pearl Street and Holcomb Street. Construction commenced in the week of October 12, 2026, and is expected to wrap up by the end of April 2027, with final street restoration slated for completion in spring 2027.

During the project timeframe, work will be conducted Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., which means that residents should anticipate some traffic restrictions along the affected routes. As construction progresses, temporary service interruptions may occur, including discolored water and reduced water pressure. However, crews are committed to expediting the work to minimize disturbances to daily life.

This project is part of West Virginia American Water's larger plan to allocate over $129 million towards infrastructure upgrades throughout the state in 2026. Ongoing economic studies have indicated that every investment of $1 million in water infrastructure can create upwards of 10 jobs for local communities. Over the last ten years, the company has directed more than $805 million toward infrastructure improvements, resulting in over 168 miles of new water mains implemented across West Virginia.

Residents and business owners seeking more information or wishing to report any water-related emergencies, such as leaks or service disruptions, can visit the company's website to submit service requests directly. This ensures that they stay informed and assists the company in maintaining high service standards.
