Jon Rodriguez Steps Up as President of Energy Centers to Strengthen Power Solutions for Data Centers

UtilityInnovation Group Appoints Jon Rodriguez as President of Energy Centers

On October 3, 2025, UtilityInnovation Group (UIG) revealed that Jon Rodriguez has been appointed as the President of Energy Centers. This new position is designed to address the expanding power requirements of data centers, especially in North America and Europe. The rapid increase in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-density computing is significantly altering how data centers consume energy, and UIG is taking proactive measures to meet these evolving demands.

UIG has developed innovative Energy Center solutions that are crucial for data center developers and operators. These solutions are optimized for readiness in development, operational flexibility, and enhanced resilience—key factors in today’s rapidly changing energy landscape. With Rodriguez at the helm, UIG aims to accelerate its deployment of these solutions, ensuring that the company remains a leader in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the energy industry.

As the new President of Energy Centers, Rodriguez will spearhead UIG's initiatives to leverage its extensive industry knowledge and deliver state-of-the-art energy systems. Central to UIG's offerings are the Energy Storage for Resiliency (ESR)® and GridSure® platforms. ESR® is designed to improve power stability, manage the energy demands of intense AI workloads, and refine large microgrid operations. Conversely, GridSure® enhances control and asset management, fostering resilience and reliability for crucial data center operations. These sophisticated technologies are pivotal for clients navigating the unprecedented expansion of AI infrastructure.

Rodriguez brings with him over 20 years of experience in utility-scale power plant development, design, construction, and operations. His most recent role was within Wärtsilä Energy's North American team, where he specialized in large-scale reciprocating engine (RICE) power plant solutions tailored for utilities and data centers. In addition, he has a wealth of experience in developing behind-the-meter generation solutions, focusing on demand response, capacity management, and resiliency strategies for industrial, retail, and data center clients.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville and is a licensed Professional Engineer. Rodriguez expressed enthusiasm about his new role by stating, "Taking on the role as President of Energy Centers at UIG is an extremely exciting opportunity. I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders in the data center industry to develop Energy Center solutions that not only enhance resiliency but also optimize energy practices needed for the rapid growth of grid capacity and flexibility."

Derek Tugwell, President and Co-founder of UIG, praised Rodriguez’s appointment, emphasizing that his expertise in commercializing utility-scale power plants will play a significant role in UIG's global Energy Center market expansion. Tugwell stated, "His leadership and expertise will accelerate our ability to deliver innovation at scale, supporting the demands of AI-driven data centers, utilities, and other major energy consumers. We're thrilled to have him join our team."
