Envision Successfully Fuels the World's First Ammonia-Efficient VLAC, Terra Clove
Envision Fuels a New Era in Maritime Decarbonization
On November 3, 2026, Envision, a global leader in green technologies, announced a significant milestone in maritime transport by successfully supplying its certified green ammonia for refueling the world's first Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC), named Terra Clove. This groundbreaking vessel, powered by a dual-fuel ammonia propulsion system, marks a key advancement in the decarbonization efforts within the global shipping industry.
The Terra Clove, constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), was officially launched in South Korea. The vessel's dual-fuel capabilities offer flexibility, allowing it to operate on both green ammonia and conventional marine fuels, thereby facilitating substantial greenhouse gas emission reductions throughout its lifecycle.
This achievement follows the initial commercial delivery of Envision's green ammonia in February 2026, which was successfully transported from Chifeng to LOTTE Fine Chemical in Ulsan, South Korea. This delivery was historic, representing the world's first end-to-end commercial supply of green ammonia, integrating renewable hydrogen synthesis with international maritime logistics. With the refueling of the Terra Clove, Envision has completed the entire value chain—from production and transport to downstream marine fuel application.
The green ammonia is produced at Envision’s dedicated hydrogen and ammonia industrial park in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, where the facility is currently capable of producing 320,000 tons annually, with a projected total capacity of 1.52 million tons. The Chifeng plant is certified by Bureau Veritas under ISO standards, ensuring that the green ammonia complies with requirements for non-biological renewable source fuels (RFNBO) and ISCC certification.
Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy, expressed pride in this achievement, highlighting that this refueling marks a pivotal moment in connecting the entire green ammonia value chain on a large scale. He stated, "After our initial delivery to LOTTE Fine Chemical in February, this refueling represents a historic milestone. We have officially linked the complete value chain of green ammonia from production to marine application at an expanded scale. The deployment of this first-of-its-kind VLAC powered by the Everllence dual-fuel engine demonstrates that green ammonia is now a viable and scalable maritime fuel. We are extremely proud to partner with visionary leaders like EPS and LOTTE Fine Chemical to make this a reality, and we are excited to advance the global maritime sector towards carbon neutrality."
The successful fueling of the Terra Clove with green ammonia not only solidifies Envision’s status as a global leader in green hydrogen and ammonia solutions but also reinforces the company's commitment to providing reliable, scalable, and certified green fuels to support the long-term decarbonization goals of the maritime sector. The initiative sets a precedent for the industry, illustrating that transitioning to sustainable fuel sources is not just feasible but essential for the future of maritime transportation.
In summary, Envision's pioneering efforts—demonstrated through the successful refueling of the Terra Clove—prove to be a crucial step forward in the broader journey toward sustainable energy solutions within the shipping avenue. This initiative not only advances the technology behind ammonia as a maritime fuel but also emphasizes the role of innovation and partnership in achieving global sustainability targets.
