Sinopec's Generous Contribution to Cairo University
On November 14, 2025, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, widely known as Sinopec, made a significant cultural donation to Cairo University by providing 1,000 carefully curated books. This initiative took place during the launch of the 'Silk Road Book House - China Bookshelf,' and represents Sinopec's ongoing commitment to fostering international cultural ties through literature.
The books included in this donation span a range of topics, including traditional Chinese culture, finance, economics, management, digital marketing, and the Chinese language. This collection was developed through a collaborative effort between Sinopec and Cairo University, demonstrating a shared vision of promoting cultural understanding and educational advancement.
The event witnessed the participation of distinguished guests, including Lu Chunsheng, the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, and Yu Yongsheng, the General Manager of Sinopec's Brand Department. They were joined by Dr. Naglaa Raafat, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, along with over 260 faculty members and students from the university. During his address, Lu Chunsheng emphasized the vital role that books play in recording, disseminating, and enriching culture. He remarked that without cultural exchanges and mutual understanding, genuine learning between civilizations cannot occur. Sharing books serves as a crucial channel for fostering intercultural dialogue and establishing a solid foundation for future interactions.
Yu Yongsheng further articulated Sinopec's commitment, stating that as a global leader in energy and chemical products, the company actively fulfills its social responsibilities. Their efforts extend to international cooperation in education, culture, and community development, which aim to enhance social progress and improve the quality of life for host countries.
This donation is part of a broader initiative known as the 'Silk Road Book House - China Bookshelf,' which has seen Sinopec implement similar projects in eight countries since 2019, providing over 12,000 books in Chinese and various other languages. Their ongoing commitment not only enriches knowledge but also strengthens educational partnerships.
In her remarks, Professor Naglaa Raafat described Sinopec's initiative as a meaningful and intelligent collaboration. She highlighted how Sinopec is not merely donating books but also creating a platform for cultural exchange within the Faculty of Arts. She expressed hope that this donation would act as a catalyst for expanding collaboration in other areas, thereby emphasizing the inseparable connections between economic, educational, and cultural exchanges.
The event symbolizes a concrete step toward promoting cultural exchange between China and Egypt, reinforcing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
As we look to the future, such initiatives will undoubtedly contribute to a shared vision for humanity, paving the way for more robust interpersonal connections through the shared love of literature and learning. Sinopec’s commitment to education and cultural exchange embodies a model for cooperation that transcends borders, fostering mutual understanding and respect among civilizations.
