International Women's Forum to Gather Global Leaders in Cape Town for 2025 Conference
From November 5-7, 2025, Cape Town, often referred to as the Mother City, will proudly host the
International Women's Forum (IWF) global Cornerstone Conference. This event aims to unite nearly 500 women leaders and experts from over
30 countries, creating a unique opportunity for shared insights and networking under the insightful theme
“Ubuntu: I am because we are.”
The conference's focal point involves a critical exploration of issues such as the changing geopolitical environment, the role of
artificial intelligence in society, and the significance of arts and culture in promoting understanding and healing. Stephanie O'Keefe, the global CEO of IWF, expressed the importance of gatherings like this one, stating,
“In a world filled with much uncertainty, it is vital to create and sustain our connections while learning about critical issues.” Women’s leadership will be highlighted as pivotal for navigating today’s challenges and shaping a progressive future.
Interestingly, this conference takes place just weeks before the significant
G20 Summit, for which South Africa holds the presidency—marking a historic moment as the first African nation to assume this leadership role. This G20 Summit will also be themed around Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability, complementing the dialogues anticipated in Cape Town.
Nolitha Fakude, the co-chair of the Cornerstone Conference, described Cape Town as a vibrant place rich in culture and history, underscoring how this city serves as a powerful representation of community, resilience, and transformation.
“There is no better place to connect, catalyse, and celebrate women's leadership,” said Fakude, aptly summarizing the spirit of the event.
The conference will kick off with a distinguished speaker lineup that includes global leaders such as
Rebeca Grynspan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and
Ambassador Dr. Monica Juma. Their insights will frame discussions on how collective action can respond to the pressing challenges we face today.
Irene Charnley, also a co-chair for the conference, emphasized the urgency of mobilizing collective action among leaders, remarking,
“Today more than ever, leaders need to prioritize mobilizing collective action to address the world's challenges.” She encouraged participants to proactively shape narratives around the complex geopolitical landscape and the global economy need for innovative and strategic approaches.
A highlight of the event will be the
Susan Hammer Memorial Lecture, delivered by Advocate
Mojankunyane Gumbi. This lecture honors the legacy of
Susan Hammer, a pioneering lawyer and advocate for women’s advancement. The annual lecture aims to spotlight women whose contributions have significantly impacted peace and civil society.
Day two will include engaging
Fireside Chats featuring notable personalities like
Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, co-founder of the Motsepe Foundation, and
Andrea Albright, Chief Growth Officer at Walmart International. Additionally, the arts and creative expressions will come to the forefront with conversations led by prominent South African musicians and authors, addressing the roles of creativity in shaping identity and community healing.
Moreover, IWF’s
Ideas Remaking the World segment will spotlight innovators and disruptors working toward solving contemporary global challenges through creative and effective solutions.
The
Leading Light Gala Dinner will conclude the conference, celebrating the achievements of three outstanding women leaders. They will join the ranks of previous honorees like
Margaret Thatcher,
Rosa Parks, and
Jane Goodall, recognizing their contributions to various fields including politics, civil rights, conservation, and economics.
