Empowering Future Generations: The DOMINISTA CHALLENGE

From October 6-8, the DOMINISTA CHALLENGE will take place at "Inishie no Yado Kawan" and "Yado Tsukiyo no Usagi" in Izumo City, aimed specifically at middle school students from Izumo City Takaoka Junior High School. Organized by Kyoritsu Maintenance, which operates Dormy Inn business hotels and Kyoritsu Resorts, this program offers young students an invaluable opportunity to explore their career aspirations in the hospitality industry.

The DOMINISTA CHALLENGE: An Insightful Experience

The DOMINISTA CHALLENGE has been welcoming students across Japan since 2019, focusing on providing middle and high school students with hands-on experiences in hotels. Through activities such as front desk customer interactions, room cleaning, and bed-making, participants will not only gain insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of the hospitality sector but also learn about the importance of helping others and community collaboration. This approach aims to foster a sense of responsibility and attachment to their local area while adapting to a world increasingly influenced by globalization and multicultural interactions.

To date, more than 60 schools, including 11 in the Chugoku and Shikoku areas, have participated in this program as part of their career education initiatives.

Program Schedule and Contents

The primary goals of the DOMINISTA CHALLENGE are to equip students with essential insights and attitudes related to work and to encourage them to think about their future career paths. The schedule for the program is as follows:
  • - Day 1 (October 6): 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • - Day 2 (October 7): 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • - Day 3 (October 8): 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

The program includes classroom sessions on job descriptions and etiquette courses, followed by practical experiences such as:
  • - Front desk service and hotel manners
  • - Facility management through bed-making and room inspections
  • - Restaurant operations including dish serving and breakfast tasting

Student Perspectives

Students from Izumo City Takaoka Junior High expressed excitement about the opportunity to learn and grow through this experience. One student commented, "I want to listen carefully to the staff and quickly apply what I learn." Another student, eager to explore a career in tourism, said, "I usually stay in hotels as a guest, but I look forward to understanding the challenges from the other side."

Insights from the Deputy Manager

Masatoshi Sugawaki, Deputy Manager of Inishie no Yado Kawan and Yado Tsukiyo no Usagi, shared his thoughts on the importance of this experience. "I’m truly impressed by the students’ eagerness to learn and their proactive attitude. By participating in this program, they will gain a deeper understanding of the efforts and struggles that go into our work, which will serve as a valuable catalyst for their future career considerations in the tourism industry," he remarked.
