A Night to Remember
The infamous Night of Wonder Gala, hosted by the Progeria Research Foundation (PRF), is approaching swiftly. Scheduled for
November 14, 2026, at the luxurious Westin Boston Seaport Hotel, this biennial event promises to be a heartfelt gathering of community, science, and philanthropy.
This year, the gala will honor
Dr. David R. Liu, an innovator in the field of gene editing, along with long-time supporters
Cathy and Dave Gravel of GraVoc. This event is pivotal not only in celebrating significant contributions to medical science but also in raising funds for the research of
Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome—a rare, devastating genetic condition that causes premature aging in children.
A Tribute to Change-Makers
At the forefront of this year's ceremony will be the presentation of two highly esteemed awards: the
S.A.M. Award for Science & Medicine and the
Amy Award for Spirit & Service. The S.A.M. Award, named in honor of
Sam Berns, a motivating figure in the Progeria community, is given to individuals and groups that advance the scientific initiatives that could lead to a cure for Progeria. Dr. Liu stands as this year’s esteemed recipient.
A professor at Harvard University and an investigator with the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Dr. Liu pioneered
base editing, a groundbreaking technology that acts as a “spell check” for genetic codes. His groundbreaking research offers hope for correcting the genetic mutation responsible for Progeria—a development that could potentially transform treatment for thousands of affected children.
“Meeting children afflicted with Progeria drives home the urgency of our work,” commented Dr. Liu. “This recognition is truly meaningful as I continue my collaboration with PRF to explore precise gene-editing therapies.”
Conversely, the Amy Award will recognize the remarkable philanthropy and community spirit embodied by Cathy and Dave Gravel. Their unwavering support, cultural involvement, and passionate initiatives throughout the years have immensely contributed to the foundation's efforts. These acts of kindness and generosity not only honor the legacy of
Amy Foose, a beloved child with Progeria but also emphasize the significance of community in the fight against this disease.
“Our motivation stems from the laughter and honesty we share with the children, whose fortitude in the face of adversity continually inspires us,” expressed Cathy Gravel. Their devoted efforts highlight a model for community engagement, encouraging others to join the cause.
Supporting the Cause
Attendees of the Night of Wonder Gala will explore an evening filled with inspiring speeches, heartwarming stories, and opportunities to engage with both the scientific community and those personally impacted by Progeria. The funds raised will directly support PRF's ongoing commitment to finding effective treatments and a possible cure for this condition.
To participate in this monumental event or to support PRF’s mission, tickets can be purchased through their official website:
