FOCUS Appoints Jonathan Reyes as New CEO
On October 7, 2026, FOCUS, one of the largest Catholic outreach and missionary organizations in the United States, announced the appointment of
Jonathan Reyes as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 16. This transition signifies a strong commitment to its mission of guiding individuals toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and empowering them to live as missionaries for the growth of God's kingdom.
A Legacy of Commitment
For nearly three decades, FOCUS has played a pivotal role in the Catholic Church by engaging individuals and fostering discipleship through various means such as Bible studies, mentorship initiatives, mission trips, and conferences. Reyes, revered for his extensive executive experience in evangelization, charity, and Catholic higher education, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to this important leadership role.
Reflecting on his journey, Reyes shares, "Decades ago, I joined FOCUS at Curtis Martin's invitation to support the important work of missionary formation. That invitation changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. Over the years, I have watched God use this apostolate to transform thousands of lives on college campuses and in parishes. This fruit is a testimony to the faithful leaders and missionaries who have offered their lives to the Great Commission. It is indeed a privilege to serve beside them, and I hope God will continue to bless the work of FOCUS for generations to come."
Leadership Transition
The selection of Reyes follows a comprehensive and prayerful search conducted by the FOCUS Board of Directors, recognizing both his historical connection with the organization and his vast experience leading various Catholic institutions. Reyes is no stranger to FOCUS; he previously served as Vice President of Ministry and Formation and as a member of the Board.
William Mumma, chairman of the FOCUS Board of Directors, stated, "From the beginning of our search, we believed it was essential to find someone who combines a proven record of executive leadership with a deep understanding of our mission. Jonathan has walked alongside our missionaries and returns with an acute awareness of how our mission can effectively bear fruit."
Prior Experiences that Shape a Leader
Jonathan Reyes’ career is distinguished by significant leadership roles, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Communications for the Knights of Columbus. His service to the Church is notable, having spent almost a decade with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in senior positions and leading Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver. Reyes also co-founded the Augustine Institute, and while at Catholic Charities, he launched the apostolate
Christ in the City.
His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in European history from the University of Notre Dame, along with a history teaching role at Christendom College, where he also held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Community and Prayer
Archbishop Emeritus Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia remarked, "I’ve known and admired Jonathan for many years, both as a lay leader and as a friend. He's a man of exceptional Christian character, intellect, apostolic energy, and professional skill. He is well acquainted with the founder’s vision and the dedicated FOCUS staff and missionaries. He will undoubtedly contribute to making FOCUS's works more fruitful in the future."
Reyes assumes his role following Interim CEO Tim Thoman, who managed the organization during the national search since December 2025. FOCUS’s founder, Curtis Martin, who established the organization in 1998, continues to contribute by serving as a board member and supporting its mission with his extensive experience.
Martin expressed, "I have been blessed to know Jonathan for over 25 years. He has remarkable leadership experience with the Church and a profound desire to help people encounter Jesus Christ. Please join me in praying for Jonathan as he embarks on this important endeavor within FOCUS."
Family Life and Relocation
Jonathan and his wife, Stephanie, are celebrating over 31 years of marriage and are parents to seven children. Their family plans to relocate to Colorado, where Reyes will start his term at FOCUS's national headquarters.
