Philip Morris International's 'Thanks for Giving' Campaign
On November 25, 2025, PMI U.S. unveiled its latest initiative, dubbed "Thanks for Giving," aimed at inspiring individuals and businesses to recognize and support charitable entities that tirelessly work to enhance community life. This campaign aligns with the spirit of Thanksgiving and the global #GivingTuesday movement, encouraging generosity and active participation in community betterment throughout the year.
Marian Salzman, Senior Vice President of PMI U.S. and a pivotal figure behind the inception of GivingTuesday in 2012, emphasized the importance of continuous generosity. "#GivingTuesday began as a single day dedicated to goodwill, but the real impact manifests when acts of kindness and accountability become part of our daily actions," she stated. "At PMI U.S., our commitment to generosity is not just a seasonal endeavor. Since 2022, our contributions have surpassed $35 million, and employee involvement in community programs has surged by 400%.”
As part of its sustained philanthropic efforts, PMI U.S. has injected over $4.8 million into 148 organizations throughout the region since early 2024. The focus has been primarily on economic empowerment, with initiatives receiving over $4.4 million, along with nearly $225,000 directed towards veterans and military support. These resources enable partnering organizations to effectuate indispensable changes at the community level, uplifting countless lives.
"Thanks to PMI U.S., we can provide comprehensive support that includes housing, career development, and wellness resources to over 8,000 veterans across 30 counties in Western and Central Pennsylvania," remarked Toshua Jarrett, Chief Development Officer of the Veterans Leadership Program. This partnership plays a crucial role in helping veterans realize their fullest potential.
Apart from supporting veterans, PMI U.S. also contributes to health initiatives. “Our partnership with PMI U.S. has significantly expanded our Cooking for Heart Health program, enabling us to offer more hands-on nutrition education,” stated Christin Kwasny, Development Director at Vetri Community Partnership. This collaboration has sparked noticeable improvements in participants’ cooking confidence and heart-healthy habits, fostering a healthier community.
The campaign also highlights the WeCare program, through which PMI U.S. employees can nominate nonprofits for company-funded donations. In 2025 alone, this initiative directed over $1.86 million to more than 400 local organizations within 44 states and the District of Columbia. PMI U.S. has thus contributed over $35 million nationwide since 2022, emphasizing the importance of grassroots support.
Furthermore, employees have aided in channeling nearly $300,000 in company-sponsored funds to local organizations. “The investment from PMI U.S. allowed us to provide a safe, caring environment for the animals at Storeybrook Farm Sanctuary,” expressed Olivia Weeks, Founder and President of the organization. She emphasized gratitude for PMI's commitment, which enables them to make a meaningful impact daily.
The "Thanks for Giving" campaign exemplifies PMI U.S.'s realistic approach to philanthropy, prioritizing listening, impactful investments, and collaborative efforts to support organizations doing substantial work in their communities. This initiative is just one facet of PMI U.S.’s broader mission to invest in America's future. Committed to advancing a smoke-free nation, PMI U.S. strives to provide better alternatives to the approximately 30 million legal-age smokers, ensuring responsible marketing of its products.
With over 3,000 employees and various manufacturing facilities across the country, including locations in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Wilson, North Carolina, PMI U.S. significantly contributes to the nation's economy while promoting a healthier lifestyle. For more detailed information, visit
