A Unique Matching Experience at Cho's Old Yamaghata Elementary School
On December 6th, OmiKare, a leading matchmaking information site in Japan, held a remarkable event named "Koi no Kagai Jugyō x Matching Event 2025 in Koi-Yamagata" at the historic old Yamaghata Elementary School in Chizu, Tottori Prefecture. This event, inspired by the region's rich cultural heritage, brought together 33 members in their 20s and 30s, eager to connect and build relationships rooted in local culture.
The backdrop of the event, a wooden schoolhouse designated as a national registered tangible cultural property, provided a nostalgic setting. Participants engaged in various activities reminiscent of a school's playful atmosphere, such as traditional "Tamaire" (ball toss) and a "Zokin Gake Relay" (a whimsical cleaning race). The cheerful shouts and laughter filled the space, creating an environment where connections could easily flourish.
This event was the final chapter of a trilogy spearheaded by OmiKare and the Tottori Prefecture, celebrating the community's initiative to counteract declining birth rates. Notably, this year's collaboration has already resulted in 67 couples finding love through previous events held at Tottori Sand Dunes and the Yonago Night Museum. OmiKare reached the significant milestone of one million registered members, making it the top site for marriage event listings in Japan.
Addressing Local Challenges
Tottori Prefecture, grappling with the challenges of decreasing birth rates and rising unmarried individuals, has recognized the importance of such matchmaking initiatives. With the launch of the “En-Tree” dating support center and the “Couple Doubling Plan,” Tottori aims to strengthen relationship support while aiming to develop a vibrant community where love can blossom. The synergy between OmiKare's vision for revolutionizing encounters and the region's commitment to fostering relationships culminated in a formal partnership agreement in 2024. This year alone, extensive matching events have attracted a combined total of 210 participants, successfully creating 57 couples before the December event.
A Day of Nostalgia and Connection
At the event, the average participant was 29.2 years old, indicating an increasing interest among younger individuals in establishing local connections. Participants included 22 men and 11 women; their enthusiasm reflected a strong desire for real relationships rooted in community.
The event commenced with nostalgic chimes, signaling the start of the activities led by MC Araki, who led a "Marriage Strategy Meeting" reminiscent of a classroom environment, yielding thoughtful advice centered on fostering connections. As guests engaged in icebreaker games like "Fruits Basket" and relays, initial nerves transformed into energetic exchanges filled with high-fives and laughter.
During the free time period, groups explored various activities such as the "Zokin Gake Relay," a “Cafeteria” experience, and a cozy “Campfire Experience” reminiscent of a school festival. The relaxed atmosphere allowed participants to get to know one another organically, not only gaining connections but a sense of nostalgia from their school days. OmiKare also introduced their innovative telephone-based matching application, “OmiKare Live,” to enhance the networking experience.
At the end of the event, through direct interactions and exchanging approach cards, a total of 10 couples blossomed from this well-crafted setting.

Post-event surveys revealed a strong satisfaction rate. Despite the winter cold and residual snow, 87.5% of participants expressed being "very satisfied" or "somewhat satisfied," with 81.3% eager to participate in future events.
