Enhancing Management Skills for Leaders with Cross-Border Talent through 1on1 Sessions
LoanDeal Co., Ltd. is set to commence the third phase of its "1on1 Sessions" program, tailored specifically for managers overseeing cross-border talent, starting from September 2025. Under the supervision of Kousuke Honma, this initiative underscores the growing significance of nurturing leadership capabilities within organizations that embrace cross-border human resources.
Founded in Tokyo's Minato district, LoanDeal, led by President Kouki Goto and Yousuke Okawa, focuses on innovative employee development strategies, including a unique program allowing employees to temporarily transfer to venture companies while remaining part of their original corporation. This approach, known as "rental transfer," has facilitated learning and organizational evolution for approximately 1,000 individuals across over 100 enterprises so far.
Cross-border personnel, who gain experience outside their traditional corporate environments, bring fresh perspectives and a questioning attitude that challenges conventional norms. By tapping into the insights and learning these individuals possess, LoanDeal aims to catalyze behavioral shifts within teams. This program encourages dialogue and fosters innovation within organizations, enabling substantial transformative changes.
Key Features of the Program
Unlike conventional 1on1 coaching sessions, this program emphasizes skills essential for effectively utilizing cross-border human resources. Participants will learn how to leverage the insights acquired through their cross-border experiences upon returning to their organizations. The program aims to impart practical techniques for effective questioning, active listening, and strategic behavioral design.
Systematic Skill Acquisition
The training focuses on the idea that successful 1on1 engagements are rooted in skill, not merely intuition. Participants will delve into three primary modes: the listening mode, the learning mode, and the intellectual combat mode. These frameworks are designed to enhance participants' ability to listen deeply, provoke personal reflection and actionable insights, and explore abstract concepts and values comprehensively.
Utilizing Cross-Border Experience
The course encourages participants to engage in constructive dialogues with their cross-border counterparts, drawing out vital learnings attained outside their traditional boundaries. This interaction aims to stimulate personal behavior changes, promote team discussions, and drive operational improvements.
On-the-Job Practice and Reinforcement
Each session will include practical assignments, allowing participants to share their experiences with one another. This peer feedback mechanism ensures diverse role-playing—participants will take turns being both mentors and mentees—enhancing their skill acquisition and reinforcing learning in real work contexts.
Achievements from Previous Phases
The initiative has seen impressive participant engagement, with 21 participants from 16 companies completing the first phase from September to December 2024 and the second phase from April to September 2025. Some notable companies involved include:
- - Orient Corporation
- - Ono Pharmaceutical
- - Seiko Epson
- - Tokai Rika
- - Toyota Boshoku
- - Morinaga
- - Yamaha
- - Learning for All (NPO)
Feedback from the second round revealed that all nine respondents reported a 100% satisfaction rate. Participants highlighted a shift in their perspective of 1on1 sessions from formal obligations into valuable tools for fostering better organizational dynamics and relationships.
