Maple Leaf Foods Announces Key Dates for Canada Packers Spin-Off



Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (TSX: MFI), a leader in the protein-focused consumer packaged goods industry, has revealed critical details regarding the anticipated spin-off of its pork operations under the new entity, Canada Packers Inc. According to the announcement made on September 26, 2025, the closing date for this corporate restructuring is scheduled for October 1, 2025, with September 30, 2025, designated as the record date.

The decision to spin off Canada Packers follows previous approvals from both shareholders and the courts, which have paved the way for this transition. The company is now preparing to finalize this process, especially with a favorable ruling from the Canada Revenue Agency expected shortly. Under the terms of the arrangement, Maple Leaf Foods will maintain a 16% ownership stake in Canada Packers, making it a significant player in the new entity, while the remaining shares will be distributed pro-rata to existing shareholders of Maple Leaf Foods.

In practical terms, for every common share of Maple Leaf Foods shareholders hold by the Arrangement Record Date, they will be entitled to receive 0.2 common shares of Canada Packers. This distribution is based on the total number of outstanding shares, which stood at approximately 124.8 million as of September 25, 2025. It is expected that nearly 29.7 million shares of Canada Packers will be available following the completion of the arrangement. Out of this, about 25 million will be distributed to shareholders, while around 4.8 million will remain with Maple Leaf Foods.
