Get Ready to Apply! Summer 2025 Work-Based Learning Opportunities in Philadelphia

The City of Philadelphia, along with Philadelphia Works and the School District of Philadelphia, is thrilled to announce the upcoming application period for Career Connected Learning PHL (C2L-PHL) summer work-based learning experiences. This initiative is designed to provide paid opportunities for youth and young adults ages 12-24 to gain essential skills and explore various career paths.

Application Details

The application window will be open from April 22 to May 18, 2025, allowing approximately three weeks for interested candidates to apply. Adults, including parents, teachers, and counselors, are encouraged to inspire young individuals in their circles to start preparing the necessary documentation for this opportunity.

Patrick Clancy, the president and CEO of Philadelphia Works, emphasized the importance of investing in the youth of Philadelphia. He stated, "Investing in our youth is an intentional investment into Philadelphia's future." He believes the C2L-PHL initiative will connect young people with local experiences that will significantly shape their careers and contribute to the city's workforce.

According to Vanessa Garrett Harley, Chief Deputy Mayor for Social Impact and Strategic Initiatives, this program allows youth to not only explore their career options but also to discover their interests and how they can contribute to their community. "Our youth are full of untapped potential," she remarked, indicating that this program aims to inspire young individuals to emerge as future leaders.

Preparing to Apply

JEVS Human Services, which manages the program's fiscal operations, has shared crucial guidance for prospective participants to enhance their application experience. Key requirements include:
1. Personal Email Address - Applicants should use their own email rather than a parent's to avoid barriers during submission.
2. Social Security Number - Proof of this number must be provided.
3. Residential Address - Applicants must reside in Philadelphia County.
4. Proof of Age and Identity - Documentation supporting age and identity is essential.

A comprehensive list of required documents is accessible online to assist applicants in their preparations.

Cynthia Figueroa, president and CEO of JEVS Human Services, highlighted the program's impact, noting that last year alone, C2L-PHL directed $7.6 million into the hands of over 7,000 young people in Philadelphia. This substantial financial flow has greatly benefited the local economy. With its second summer incoming, there is excitement about extending work opportunities and career exposure to even more young individuals.
