TCL CSOT Initiates Equipment Move-In for Innovative OLED Production Line
Introduction
On October 31, 2026, TCL CSOT embarked on a significant milestone with the transition of its t8 8.6-generation Inkjet Printing OLED (IJP OLED) production line in Guangzhou into the equipment move-in phase. This event marks a crucial step toward the anticipated mass production set to commence in 2027, positioning TCL CSOT as a trailblazer in the next generation of display technologies.
Equipment Move-In Phase
The ceremony commemorating this pivotal event was attended by TCL CSOT executives alongside representatives from various key suppliers. Feng Zhang, the Senior Vice President of TCL CSOT, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progression: "The move-in of the first core production equipment marks the t8 project's shift towards the equipment installation and commissioning phase. This facility stands as one of the most advanced examples in the sector, and the installation of elite technologies will serve as a challenge for us and our partners, pushing the boundaries of technical potential."
Investment and Capacity
The t8 project signifies a strategic investment of approximately RMB 29.5 billion, intended to innovate how displays are produced and processed. It’s designed to process around 22,500 glass substrates monthly at a size of 8.6-generation, ideally suited for applications in tablets, laptops, and monitors, with future expansions planned into flexible and foldable display formats. The construction, having begun on September 16, 2025, saw the main factory structure completed within a remarkable 226 days. This rapid progress is indicative of TCL CSOT's commitment to efficiency and modernization.
Transition to Mass Production
As the t8 project moves toward full-scale production, the focus will shift to the installation of the production line, the integration of power systems, and comprehensive process validation. The strategy anticipates launching mass production activities in the fourth quarter of 2027.
IJP OLED technology represents a paradigm shift, utilizing an on-demand deposition process that enhances precision in applying organic light-emitting materials on glass substrates. Unlike conventional methods such as vacuum thermal evaporation (VTE), IJP boasts higher material utilization, offering a greener and more efficient production alternative recognized as essential for next-generation display solutions.
Evolution of IJP OLED Technology
Weiran Cao, General Manager of IJP-OLED Middle Platform at TCL CSOT, reflected on the evolution of the technology: "From a solitary ink drop and small-scale prototypes to the G5.5 line (t12) in Wuhan—the world's first mass production line for IJP OLED—and now the developing t8 facility in Guangzhou; TCL CSOT has dedicated over a decade to transform IJP OLED from theoretical research to practical production capability. The equipment move-in at t8 signals the beginning of our final preparations for mass output."
Future Prospects and Conclusion
As the project advances towards mass production, TCL CSOT aims to enhance the adoption of the IJP OLED technology across various sizes and applications, ensuring that advanced display technologies continue to elevate user experiences worldwide. The successful commissioning of this production line is set to deliver pioneering display solutions while reaffirming TCL CSOT's position as a leader in display innovation.
By developing next-generation IJP OLED displays, TCL CSOT continues to challenge norms and set new standards for quality and efficiency in the display industry. With a commitment to sustainability and innovation, OLED displays promise to reshape how consumers engage with digital media, enhancing everything from entertainment to productivity.
