Yili Group Launches Global Innovation Vanguard Initiative in Cambridge

Yili Group has made a significant stride in the dairy sector with the recent unveiling of its Global Innovation Vanguard Initiative in Cambridge, UK. Positioned under the engaging theme of "Gathering Global Wisdom, Pioneering a Healthier Future," the initiative aims to develop a comprehensive research and development (R&D) framework that is accessible to all, with the objective of elevating the global dairy value chain.

During the launch, Yili Group solidified its commitments by signing strategic agreements with two renowned organizations: Springer Nature and the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) at the University of Cambridge. These partnerships underscore Yili's dedication to fostering collaborative research and development ventures across the global dairy industry, reflecting an understanding that innovation requires a synergetic approach involving various stakeholders.

Liu Chunxi, Senior Executive President of Yili Group, articulated this vision by emphasizing that the company aims to seize new industry opportunities while prioritizing consumer health and promoting synergy throughout the entire dairy value chain. He stated, "Yili consistently fosters synergy across the entire value chain and puts consumer health at the heart of everything we do, elevating the global dairy sector to new heights." This commitment is not only ambitious but also crucial as the industry faces rapidly changing demands and challenges.

As part of the launch, Yili, in collaboration with the China National Technology Innovation Center for Dairy (NTICD), announced 13 flagship projects targeting critical areas in the dairy sector. These encompass a range of topics including advanced cattle breeding techniques, smart farming practices, precision nutrition, high-value functional ingredients, and sustainable packaging solutions. He Jian, Head of the NTICD and General Manager of Yili's Global Innovation Center, encouraged research institutes and industry partners worldwide to join forces in addressing these pressing challenges.

An important aspect of Yili’s initiative is its collaboration with the Institute for Manufacturing. Through an agreement signed during the launch, both parties will explore new paradigms of industrial research and development. Andy Neely, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor of Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge, commented on this partnership, saying, "It's fantastic that Yili is collaborating with Cambridge, particularly with the Institute for Manufacturing. That's all about learning new ideas and new ways of innovating across industries and different organizations. I'm confident both will gain valuable insights and contribute significantly to ongoing conversations."

Additionally, Yili's collaboration with Springer Nature will culminate in the creation of the 2026 Global Breast Milk Research White Paper. Stephen Pincock, Executive Vice President of Impact Solutions at Springer Nature, accentuated the importance of this report, which will delineate major global trends and showcase research achievements from top international institutions. Pincock noted that Yili's investment in this research signifies a substantial commitment to ensuring the well-being of future generations.

In line with these academic and research milestones, Yili's Jinlingguan brand also announced a significant upgrade to its brand strategy, branded as "Full-Spectrum Nutrition - Ultimate Freshness." Dr. Ignatius Szeto, Vice President of Yili Group, elaborated on this initiative that encompasses a comprehensive six-in-one scientific research strategy. This strategy focuses on critical health aspects such as nutrient absorption, protection, brain nutrition, gut health, bone health, and hypoallergenicity.

Supporting these diverse efforts is Yili's inventive "15+1" Global Innovation Ecosystem. This framework intricately connects 15 regional hubs with leading academic institutions worldwide, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and fostering collaborative research endeavors. Paul Moughan, a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and Professor at Massey University, expressed admiration for Yili’s scientific leadership and their transparent, integrity-driven approach to collaboration within the industry.

Yili Group’s initiative marks a transformative step forward for the dairy industry, aiming not just at improved production capabilities but also at fostering innovation and health-centric practices that will benefit consumers worldwide. As the landscape of the dairy sector evolves, Yili's commitment to collaborative innovation and consumer well-being is poised to bridge significant gaps and drive sustainable growth for years to come.
