SciBaby: A Revolutionary App for Infant Sleep and Comfort
On April 22, 2026, the Oyako Brain Science Research Institute proudly unveiled the innovative SciBaby smartphone application, specifically designed to assist parents in addressing the issues of infant crying and sleep. Previously available only on Android, SciBaby now launches its iOS version, enabling more parents to benefit from its advanced functionalities.
Developed in collaboration with renowned professors from Tokyo Science University, including Professor Akito Harachi and Professor Natsue Yoshimura, SciBaby is grounded in scientific research related to infant sleep and crying patterns. This highly effective app, which offers support based on biological responses known as “transportation response,” guides parents through the process of soothing their infants and encouraging sleep through audio cues and music. The app has been shown to reduce crying in 90% of infants within 13 to 18 minutes.
Key Features of SciBaby
1.
Walking Support Guidance: Follow the app's audio instructions for an optimal walking duration of 5 to 10 minutes, followed by seating with the child for 8 minutes to facilitate calmness and transitions to sleep.
2.
Tempo Music: The app plays music at a suitable tempo, further calming the infant.
3.
Audio Notifications: Receive audio prompts regarding remaining time and guidance on when to hold and sit with the infant.
4.
Wearable Sensor Integration: SciBaby connects with the Polar Verity Sense heart rate monitor, allowing parents to track their infant's heart rate and condition changes, with the potential for future AI enhancements.
SciBaby is unique because it presents a scientific approach to common parenting challenges and empowers parents by integrating research findings directly into home practices. A recent study involving 74 parent-child pairs indicated that 89% of initially crying infants stopped crying after 5 minutes of walking, with 52.2% falling asleep by the end of the session.
A New Era in Parenting Support
Black Professor Kumi, director of the Oyako Brain Science Research Institute, emphasizes the necessity of supporting parents to manage their infants’ crying effectively. While determining a child’s wellness in-home has been challenging, SciBaby offers a practical solution by bridging science and parenting. As a result, parents can now address nighttime crying in their homes with confidence, backed by considerable research evidence.
Future Developments
SciBaby is committed to further advancements, including providing individualized sleep timing recommendations powered by AI and enabling detailed analysis of infant sleep data. By fostering collaboration between families and researchers, SciBaby aspires to lay the foundation for scientifically grounded child-rearing practices.
