Patrick Mullane Takes the Helm at Center for Creative Leadership
The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) has announced the appointment of Patrick Mullane as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. He succeeds Martin Schneider, who stepped down in August 2026 after nearly four years of service. Mullane joins CCL with an impressive background in leadership development, having served as the Executive Director of Harvard Business School Online Executive Education for the past eleven years.
Mullane's extensive experience at Harvard included overseeing the growth of online and non-degree programs, making him a strong fit for CCL, which focuses on developing effective leaders across various organizational levels. He has previously served as a military officer in the U.S. Air Force as well as an entrepreneur and senior operations executive. His diverse background underscores his belief in the importance of high-caliber leaders, which he views as one of the most valuable resources globally.
Mullane stated, "I believe that high-quality leadership is one of the most scarce and valuable resources in the world. This belief, among others, attracted me to work at CCL. Leadership has the capacity to shape culture, drive performance, and maintain resilience in an unstable world. CCL collaborates with organizations worldwide to foster this kind of leadership."
Peter Richardson, Chair of the CCL Board, expressed enthusiasm about Mullane's addition to the team. "After a thorough search for candidates for this role, we are pleased to welcome Patrick as the next President and CEO of CCL. He possesses strategic vision, extensive experience in senior leadership training, and a passion for developing leaders who can make a positive difference. Patrick is ready and eager to work with our teams and client partners to advance CCL's mission while building upon our legacy."
This leadership transition comes at a critical juncture as rapid technological advancements and increasing economic and geopolitical instability reshape the demands on organizational leaders. Mullane's vision aligns with CCL's mission to meet these challenges head-on. Recent initiatives from CCL include "Succession Reimagined," a research-based senior leadership succession planning program, and "My Studio™," an AI-driven workspace designed for leadership development within CCL Passport™, which empowers leadership development teams to create and evaluate personalized programs quickly.
In Mullane's words, "Leadership has never been more crucial, and CCL has an exceptional opportunity to assist more leaders in navigating transformative changes and becoming effective leaders during these turbulent times. I am excited to build on nearly 60 years of world-class research in collaboration with our teams and clients to expand CCL's reach."
Mullane earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, followed by a master’s in project and systems management from Golden Gate University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is relocating from Boston to Greensboro, North Carolina, where he will be based at CCL’s global headquarters.
