Students Create Short Films on Peace for Chiba Digital Peace Museum

Chiba Digital Peace Museum: Preserving and Sharing the Importance of Peace



In a commendable initiative, the Tokyo Design Technology Center (TECH.C.) collaborated with Chiba City on a unique project aimed at educating the public about peace. This venture saw a group of ten students from various specializations—CG Creators, Super CG Creators, and Super Digital Media—working on the production of video content for the Chiba Digital Peace Museum. This project not only serves as an educational tool but also aims to convey the memories of war and the significance of peace to future generations.

Engaging Youth through Creative Expression



The students undertook this project with a clear goal: to present stories of historical events, particularly focusing on the Chiba air raids, in a way that resonates with younger audiences. They created two types of short films, each utilizing different techniques to successfully convey their messages.

The first film employs motion graphics and centers around the testimony of Akiko Takayama, a survivor of a bombing raid on June 10, 1945. By steering clear of direct depictions of war, the team crafted a piece that is more accessible and appealing to today's youth. Their emphasis on vibrant colors and delicate animations provides an artistic and emotionally impactful experience, allowing viewers to connect profoundly with the message of peace.

The second project utilized animation to clearly outline the damage inflicted during the Chiba air raids. By incorporating diagrams and illustrations, this visual approach enhances comprehension, ensuring that even those unfamiliar with the historical context can grasp the devastating effects of war and the imperative of peace.

Both films aim to dismantle the perception that war-themed videos are daunting or difficult to engage with, instead creating content that invites repeated viewership and encourages reflection on the essence of peace.

Digital Projection and Accessibility



Furthermore, the students produced additional videos to be used in digital signage, which have been displayed at 70 locations throughout Chiba City, including the City Hall. This has amplified their reach, pushing the vital message of peace across a broader audience.

These videos are accessible through the Chiba Digital Peace Museum, an online repository that enables anyone to view a diverse array of materials related to peace education without the constraints of time or location. The resources include:

  • - Audio-visual flipbooks featuring historic images
  • - Content explaining historical sites associated with wartime events
  • - Educational quizzes aimed at school children based on pre-war and post-war living conditions
