Huawei's NG WAN Solution Enters Large-Scale Commercial Implementation to Support Operator Development

Huawei's NG WAN Solution Enters Large-Scale Commercial Implementation

On October 13, during the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit at UBBF 2026 in Vienna, John Cai, Vice President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the role of AI in shaping a hopeful yet uncertain future. Cai announced that the rollout of the NG WAN solution marks the beginning of its full commercialization, showcasing Huawei's commitment to collaborating with industry leaders to strengthen the foundations of secure and resilient networks.

Multilayer Security Architecture

One of the standout features of Huawei's NG WAN solution is its multilayer security system, which encompasses devices, connections, and services. At the device level, Huawei's innovative RDR solution incorporates independent threat protection units (TPUs) and a multimodal expert behavior analysis algorithm. This setup operates separately from the router's operating system, achieving over 95% threat detection rates and pinpointing advanced persistent threats (APTs) within minutes. Moreover, through the use of Huawei's proprietary NP processor and intelligent flow identification algorithm, traffic control is accomplished efficiently, enabling detection of attacks in mere seconds and reducing the risk of DDoS attacks by 90%.

For over three months, a leading Chinese operator monitored the effectiveness of these TPUs, which thwarted 324 attacks from eight different countries.

At the connection level, all Huawei devices support post-quantum cryptography (PQC), enhancing encryption efficiency by 40%. The industry’s first integrated Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) solution allows for the unification of three channels, resulting in cost reduction for network construction by 60% and removing distance transmission limitations up to 80 km. Recently, Huawei teamed up with an operator from Macau to unveil the world’s first quantum-secured target network, boosting revenues from dedicated link services by 50%.

Service-wise, the multilayer “1+4” defense architecture drastically reduces the response time to DDoS attacks from one minute to less than five seconds, increases the detection rate of unknown threats by 15%, and guarantees 100% ransomware detection. Additionally, the CT-SOC reduces threat handling time to under 30 minutes.

Enhancing Processing Efficiency

As AI adoption expands across business operations, intelligent processing faces challenges related to packet loss, where even a loss of 0.1% can lead to a 55% reduction in processing efficiency. To counter this, Huawei's NG WAN solution employs AI Fabric to optimize computing resource efficiency by streamlining the network architecture. This dual-layered design permits network scaling up to four times while decreasing hardware requirements by 30%. The network-wide NPLB mechanism ensures link utilization at 98% and enhances training and inference performance by over 7%. The lossless Starnet algorithm ensures no packet loss during transmission over distances exceeding 1,000 km, with processing efficiency surpassing 96%. This capability enables operators to provide users with experiences comparable to those achieved with local computing resources, leading to faster monetization of services for business clients (ToB). One application in the health sector saw a Chinese operator reduce data processing costs for hospitals by 30% while increasing the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for dedicated link services fivefold.

Achieving Network Autonomy

Huawei's autonomous network architecture, termed ‘One Map, One Brain’, can attain Level AN L4 in four core areas: failure management, network change implementation, optimization protocols, and security defense. Network adjustments are executed automatically within a closed-loop system that includes verification, simulation, and configuration comparisons. In terms of security, the system detects intrusions, tracks attacks, and enables one-click blocking within minutes. Huawei has collaborated with several operators to achieve AN L4 status, with a South African operator being the first globally to reach this level of autonomy in an IP network.

The NG WAN solution has already been implemented by over 60 operators worldwide. Continuous innovations in lossless processing, multilayer security frameworks, and network autonomy not only assist operators in transitioning from AI strategies focused on efficiency optimization but also in creating true value. Huawei aims to lay down robust foundations for secure and resilient networks suitable for the AI epoch. Moving forward, the company plans to work with industry partners to accelerate the NG WAN implementation globally, aiding in the development of next-generation smart and efficient transport networks that will foster operator growth in the era of AI.
