Huawei's NG WAN Solution Boosts Operator Networks for Commercial Use

Huawei's NG WAN Solution for Large-Scale Commercial Use

At the recent Net5.5G summit held during UBBF 2026, John Cai, Vice President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, highlighted the immense potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a critical capability for navigating an uncertain future. He announced that the widespread adoption of their NG WAN solution symbolizes a significant leap towards the full commercial implementation of next-generation WAN technologies. Huawei is eager to collaborate with industry stakeholders to strengthen the foundation of safe and sustainable networks, driving collective growth in the AI era.

Layered Security and Resilience

Huawei's NG WAN Solution introduces a comprehensive security framework that encompasses devices, communication channels, and service levels. At the device level, it integrates the Huawei RDR solution, which operates independently from the router's operating system, leveraging threat protection units (TPUs) and a multimodal behavior-based expert algorithm. This innovative approach enables the detection of over 95% of threats and monitors for Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) within minutes.

On the data level, Huawei's patented NP identification algorithm combined with AI-driven traffic analysis effectively verifies traffic patterns at a ratio of 11, allowing for rapid attack detection and enabling a 90% reduction in DDoS attack risks. Over three months of deployment with a leading Chinese operator saw the prevention of 324 attacks originating from eight different countries.

At the channel level, the PQC algorithm enhances encryption performance by 40% across all Huawei devices. Furthermore, the industry's first integrated Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) solution facilitates a three-channel integration method, reducing network construction costs by 60% and surpassing the traditional 80 km limit. Recently, Huawei, in collaboration with a Macau operator, launched the world’s first targeted network with quantum security, achieving a 50% increase in revenues from private lines.

Artificial Intelligence in Computing

As AI becomes a core element of business strategies, the efficiency of intelligent computing is crucial. Even a mere 0.1% packet loss can lead to a staggering 55% reduction in computational efficiency. The NG WAN solution employs AI Fabric to bolster computational capacity through network optimization, featuring a simplified two-layer multipath architecture that quadruples network scalability while reducing equipment use by 30%. The Network Performance Loss Budgeting (NPLB) across the entire network reaches 98%, significantly enhancing training and inference performance by over 7%.

The Starnet algorithm ensures lossless packet transmission for up to 1,000 km with an impressive 96% efficiency in remote computation. This capability empowers operators to offer a local-like experience, thereby accelerating the monetization of Business to Business (B2B) services. The solution has already been deployed by a Chinese operator to support healthcare projects, resulting in a 30% decrease in hospital computing costs and a fivefold increase in Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for private lines.

Achieving Network Autonomy

Huawei’s autonomous network architecture follows the “One Map, One Brain” principle to achieve AN L4 across scenarios such as fault processing, network changes, optimization, and security protection. This closed-loop automation ensures configuration validation, modeling, and comparison for network shifts, while providing intrusion detection, attack monitoring, and one-click blocking within minutes.

Multiple operators globally have achieved the AN L4 level with Huawei's assistance, with one South African operator being the first in the world to attain such a level of autonomy in an IP network. To date, more than 60 operators have rolled out the NG WAN Solution. Through continuous innovations aimed at lossless computing efficiency, multi-layered security, and network autonomy, the solution shifts operators' AI strategies from efficiency optimization to value creation, solidifying a secure and resilient network foundation for the AI epoch.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, Huawei remains committed to collaborating with industry partners to expedite the global rollout of the NG WAN Solution. This initiative aims to build secure, sustainable, intelligent, and efficient next-generation networks that stimulate growth for communication providers in the age of AI.
